It's a notice *and* it's in a channel? How is that?
<jcowan>
For example, "Rigid Body Physics by Shinmera · Pull Request #38 · Shirakumo/trial · GitHub" was marked reverse video

"notice" is just another kind of message. anyone can send them in any channel. it's different from an oper ending a server wide notice or something.

I'm still thinking in RFC 1459 terms, where the receiver of a NOTICE had to be a nickname (whereas PRIVMSG could be sent to various things including channels). RFC 2812 allows NOTICE to have the same operand types as PRIVMSG.

jcowan Is anyone working on implementing CL on top of chez scheme?
<jcowan>
Not that I know of.
<jcowan>
There is an effort to do the converse, implement Scheme on top of CL.

Hello Everyone! It's been quite a long time since I was active here. Was busy with studies.
<jackdaniel>
welcome back
<bitblit1>
Thought I would check in. Also, I was thinking of making a window manager in common lisp. I still can't wrap my head around CFFI and there aren't many tutorials.
<bitblit1>
jackdaniel: The legend!
<jackdaniel>
of course I'm a legend! (why tho?)
<jackdaniel>
a very humble legend at that, mind me :)
<bitblit1>
I don't know you have such a COOL aura around you, also you code in common lisp and helped me out a lot. Aside from that you made McCLIM which is probably the biggest reason I like you <3
karlosz has quit [Quit: karlosz]
<bitblit1>
hehe
<jackdaniel>
I'm maintaining McCLIM, but it was made by before I've even started programming
<jackdaniel>
by people admittedly smarter than me
<jackdaniel>
but thanks, praise is always appreciated ;)
<bitblit1>
UwU. Oh yeahhhh, I have so much forgotten knowledge. Forgot how fun staying here and being lectured by beach was.
<jackdaniel>
you may want to visit #lispcafe, it got quite lively recently-ish
<bitblit1>
yeah, but I don't remember it being here. Did you develop it?
karlosz has quit [Client Quit]
<bitblit1>
Ooooh, last time it felt quite abondoned, will check out.
<jackdaniel>
no, it is gilberth
<jackdaniel>
(who right now stewards lispcafe I think btw)

Wasn't that the guy whooo...???
<bitblit1>
but still why doesn't metamodular have an ssl certificate
<jackdaniel>
because the owner did not deem it necessary - that's my best guess

<bitblit1>
Isn't that beach?
<jackdaniel>
it is
<bitblit1>
Interesting, he also suggested I make some of the applications for CLOSOS, is he still around here nowadays?
<jackdaniel>
he is
<bitblit1>
Awesome, might be here around a bit more before my AS Level Exams.
<jackdaniel>
I feel kind of like like chat-gpt-1.5 at the moment with these terse answers but oh well
<bitblit1>
No, no, I love a response, better if it's clear, concise, and doesn't require extra info. If I were to ask a really technical (for me) question then that would be annoying. Also, chatgpt4 dropped, but I guess these discussions are more for #lispcafe
<bitblit1>
For McCLIM and other X11 apps, jackdaniel, do you prefer using some sort of XCB bindings or just CLX or some other method?
<jackdaniel>
McCLIM uses CLX (no ffi), but SDL2 backend is underway too
<bitblit1>
If I were to (probable), make a window manager entirely in common lisp, what should I make that in in your opinion
<ixelp>

bitblit1: You don't need FFI to make a window manager. And you may want to check out the Eclipse window manger written by my students many years ago.

bitblit1: Metamodular doesn't have an SSL certificate, because I would have no idea how to give it one, and I am busy with other stuff.

Here:
<beach>
Thanks, but then it has to be installed somehow.

beach: Yeah, just install CERTBOT from your package manager (I suppose you don't use windows or MacOS) and run the service.
<bitblit1>
It would greatly improve visibility and trustworthiness of your website.
<beach>
I don't know how to install things on the webserver, other than HTML files.
karlosz has quit [Ping timeout: 250 seconds]
<bitblit1>
sudo certbot --nginx if you use nginx
<bitblit1>
that's it.
<bitblit1>
sudo certbot renew automatic renewal
<beach>
That would install it on my computer. Not on the webserver.
<bitblit1>
Just SSH there using OpenSSH.
<beach>
I believe I have only FTP access.
<bitblit1>
What do you run on your webserver, and is that on a VPS?
<bitblit1>
Sorry to ask so many questions
<bitblit1>
Just was curious
<beach>
I don't know what I run, and I don't know what a VPS is.
<bitblit1>
Okay.

cpli: well, it may be a C problem or a FFI problem. You could first write a C program to make sure you understand how to use the C library, and then reproduce it in lisp. That's how I did it when I worked with pkcs11 libraries.

I wanted to ask for any one using Mac Book Pro, I normally only use Linux so installing sbcl (building from source) is what I normally follow. What is the procedure to install on a Mac Book Pro. I wanted to help someone install SBCL. I see MacOS(Darwin) on the download page, not sure. Thanks
