<clee> is there any trick to booting the Rock 3A from microSD? mine powers on, green LED solid, then a second or two later, blue LED solid, no blinking.
<Armbian-Discord>
<clee> no output on HDMI or blinkenlights on the Ethernet.
<Armbian-Discord>
<Zaza> mine works well
<Armbian-Discord>
<Zaza> are you using armbian img?
<Armbian-Discord>
<clee> tried the new official Armbian images, tried ones I built myself, currently writing the Radxa Ubuntu focal server image to a new SD card to try that
<Armbian-Discord>
<Zaza> if the both leds are on, the ssystem maybe rebooting due to lack of power
<Armbian-Discord>
<Zaza> whats the spec of power supply?
<Armbian-Discord>
<clee> heyyy, Ubuntu image boots up
<Armbian-Discord>
<Zaza> 🥳
<Armbian-Discord>
<clee> it's an Anker USB power plug with 9V/2.2A supposedly
<Armbian-Discord>
<Zaza> ok, it should work
<Armbian-Discord>
<Zaza> have you saw something from the uart?
<Armbian-Discord>
<clee> I don't currently have a working UART setup
<Armbian-Discord>
<Zaza> hmm
<Armbian-Discord>
<Zaza> I tried both img from armbian, and they are working
<Armbian-Discord>
<Zaza> cn you share your dmesg ?
<Armbian-Discord>
<Zaza> when my led are on, that means the system is rebooting, but you can better from the uart log, there a spike in power consupntion when you turn on the board, if thre isnt enoguh power the boot reboot again and agin
<Armbian-Discord>
<clee> there's a delay between the green LED turning on and the blue LED turning on when it first boots for me. it just stays blue forever on the Armbian images.
<Armbian-Discord>
<clee> the blue LED blinks when things are working.
<Armbian-Discord>
<Zaza> yes, the led blue blinks when thongs are good
<Armbian-Discord>
<Zaza> things
<Armbian-Discord>
<Zaza> Can you try burn again the img? I've had similar problem
<Armbian-Discord>
<Zaza> it worked after I burned 2 time
<Armbian-Discord>
<clee> sure
<Armbian-Discord>
<Zaza> if you are using windows for that
<Armbian-Discord>
<Zaza> ensure to erase 2 times the sdcard
<Armbian-Discord>
<Zaza> windows dosnt erase well and can give problems while burning th eimg
<Armbian-Discord>
<clee> I'm on macOS and using balenaEtcher
<Armbian-Discord>
<clee> tried a fresh microSD card with the bullseye-edge Armbian build. boots fine. guess that SD card is sus now
<Armbian-Discord>
<Zaza> weee
<Armbian-Discord>
<Zaza> sometimes I erase 2 times and the last one is the longest erasing, some system dont erase well your sdcard and writing process has more chance to have problems
<Armbian-Discord>
<clee> you're probably right, but did you consider perhaps all it took was me complaining about it on the internet to solve the problem?
<Armbian-Discord>
<bret> usually works for me

<FergusL> "Do you know of any currently..." <- aws and oracle cloud, for example
<FergusL>
thanks nekomancer[m] have you used the one from Oracle yourself? I don't want to use any Amazon product, not that Oracle is a company with a much better reputation...
<nekomancer[m]>
yes, I use oracle free arm vm as armbian builder some month ago. not now (prefer local odroid-n2 as kind of a "dogfooding").

<MicroLinux (Salva)> The good way to format sd cards on windows
<Armbian-Discord>
<Esteemed Immortal Doctor Tien> do some boards run a lot hotter than others?
<Armbian-Discord>
<Esteemed Immortal Doctor Tien> i have a hard time believing these videos about using rpi's to monitor bird feeders in the hot damaging sun
<Armbian-Discord>
<Werner> Yes. Allwinner H3 for example is a lot cooler than H6 SoC
<lanefu>
allwinner chips are also rated to some pretty crazy temp tolerances
<lanefu>
and for stuff like a bird feeder, they're pretty much idling right?

<Armbian-Discord>
<clee> some definitely do. the Radxa Zero idles around 35C for me with no heatsink, though, which is pretty nice.

<Armbian-Discord>
<Esteemed Immortal Doctor Tien> idles at 35C??
<Armbian-Discord>
<Esteemed Immortal Doctor Tien> nice
<Armbian-Discord>
<Esteemed Immortal Doctor Tien> for comparison my raspi3 is idling at 37C not doing much and with fan
<Armbian-Discord>
<RichN> man i shure hope pi's come back down in price before hell freezes over
<lanefu>
meh they can stay expensive let the world see the rest of the ecosystem
<Armbian-Discord>
<RichN> but I looking at radxa zero as a replacement
<Armbian-Discord>
<RichN> a few users but nothing much I know about
<Armbian-Discord>
<lanefu> @MicroLinux (Salva) might be able to point you in the right direction
<Armbian-Discord>
<MicroLinux (Salva)> It was just a missing opcode and was added by ptitseb
<FergusL>
Thank you MicroLinux! You mean the commit that was added in relation to that issue? In my last message I explain another bug I encountered following this one
<FergusL>
I know this is a long shot asking about a very specific software that I don't expect anyone to know or use here :) but anyway a little push in some direction might help me!
<Armbian-Discord>
<MicroLinux (Salva)> I did nothing, it's all ptitseb magic
<Armbian-Discord>
<MicroLinux (Salva)> I dont get it
<Armbian-Discord>
<MicroLinux (Salva)> That software is open source
<Armbian-Discord>
<MicroLinux (Salva)> Why you dont just compile it?
<Armbian-Discord>
<FergusL> @MicroLinux (Salva) Sure, that works too. But it has closed source plugins that are only built for x86_64 and that's my main interest in running it on Box64. Cool thing is I can adapt VCV Rack to workaround issues with Box64
<Armbian-Discord>
<FergusL> (I'm the same FergusL as the one from the BridgeBot ;))
<Armbian-Discord>
<MicroLinux (Salva)> Well, yes, you can have feedback if you talk with ptitseb directly
<Armbian-Discord>
<MicroLinux (Salva)> Send him a DM
<Armbian-Discord>
<MicroLinux (Salva)> He is in this server
<Armbian-Discord>
<FergusL> Oh, thanks! :) There's even a #box86-box64 channel!
<Armbian-Discord>
<FergusL> but first I should do the honest thing of trying again with a fresh recent build, there has been a few commits that might have changed the situation... !
