<lanefu> Often a trick I do, but it's often it's own goose chase of problems. The USB ones are usually a safer bet If on hand

<MicroLinux (Salva)> Hi guys, any ideas of what could be happening here? It's a rockpi4B+. He erased spi and emmc. The uboot version doesnt seem to new to fail neither.
<Armbian-Discord>
<FergusL> why are pulseaudio.service and pulseaudio.socket force enabled as user services? I stop and disable the socket and service but on next boot it starts again
<Armbian-Discord>
<FergusL> it's not in .config/systemd/...
<Armbian-Discord>
<FergusL> I think I got it disabled on C2 and Pine64, also armbian but older versions
<Armbian-Discord>
<IgorPec> hmm, for some of those boards we still use certain hacks. don't know from my head
<Armbian-Discord>
<IgorPec> but are you sure its not a normal systemd service?
<Armbian-Discord>
<FergusL> no it's not, I tried disabling it as a normal service and it failed. But now I logged out and back in and pulseaudio didn't start o_o and right now poweroff is hanging and I didn't have the usb uard connected, hm weird! thanks anyway, good to know there are hacks so I can just do my own hacks to get pulse out of the way hehe
<Armbian-Discord>
<IgorPec> you can do some scanning on the build framework if you find something useful https://github.com/armbian/build
<Armbian-Discord>
<IgorPec> if things can be improved, you are welcome to suggestion / MR

<Armbian-Discord>
<FergusL> thanks again, I gladly would if I can at least figure out what's wrong! but at least the setup works fine if you want audio and use pulseaudio which is the case for many people!

<FergusL> I could fix it by "masking" the units with "systemd --user mask ..." actually there might be no problem at all: the "user" service file symlink is in /etc/systemd/user so calling systemctl --user disable pulse... as a user can't have any effect on that file and is only temporary. I double checked that on my debian desktop. I guess the only way is either masking or manually removing the symlink in /etc

<[TheBug]>
Okay so you are not getting any output on screen when board turns on?
<Teulz>
yes
<[TheBug]>
What type of mionitor and what resolutions does it support?
<[TheBug]>
once you booted board have you tried unplug / replug?
<Teulz>
it's a led tv , yes i'have tried
<[TheBug]>
sometimes monitors won't give correct information for the EDID identification process and this is what usually tells it what mode to switch to
<[TheBug]>
if it is lacking or can't read it can result in no display output
<[TheBug]>
the output you gave I did not see this information in it that it was trying to negotiate
<[TheBug]>
I am unpacking the focal now to burn and test here
<[TheBug]>
sdcard is burning now
<Teulz>
same here
<[TheBug]>
lol I somehow chose slowest adata card I have only writing 10M/sec .. almost there
<[TheBug]>
finally
<Teulz>
inserted and booted
<[TheBug]>
hmm I am not getting hdmi output either on this image
<[TheBug]>
how is your result?
<[TheBug]>
it boot and come up as expected?
<Teulz>
no hdmi output
<[TheBug]>
hmm
<[TheBug]>
Teulz: gimme about an hour here I have a few things to do, I am gonna test things and see where breakage is cause it seems like these images are broken -- if you come back in about hour I will try to tell you best image that will work for now
<Teulz>
ok cool it's perfect thanks
<archetech>
try a non-desktop current image
<archetech>
if it boots easy to add a cinnm
<Teulz>
it boot but i don't have hdmi output
<archetech>
plain image?
<Teulz>
yes
<archetech>
try diff mon not a tv
<Armbian-Discord>
<Tonymac32> C2?
<archetech>
ya
<Teulz>
i have tried with latest plain image on a monitor and whas the same
<Armbian-Discord>
<Tonymac32> Why do you guys keep breaking my stuff
<Armbian-Discord>
<Tonymac32> 😆
<Armbian-Discord>
<Tonymac32> Meson GX is so old literally nothing should happen there.
<archetech>
cant he edit armbian boot file to some standard like 1980x1200
<Armbian-Discord>
<Tonymac32> I use CLI/headless almost exclusively, no idea
<Armbian-Discord>
<Tonymac32> I want to see if HDMI is just broken
<Armbian-Discord>
<Tonymac32> Hardkernel did some "special stuff" concerning the C2 and once in a while it doesn't play nice
<archetech>
Bug confirmed it
<Armbian-Discord>
<Tonymac32> Bug has something that isn't an H3? Whoa
<Teulz>
i have edited whith 1920x1080
<archetech>
ok if that dont boot then its the dtbs or sumpthin
<archetech>
and theres no harm in trying a diff distro
<Armbian-Discord>
<Tonymac32> Sure. The board is 99% mainline supported, but maybe someone already found the regression
<Armbian-Discord>
<Tonymac32> Or maybe someone screwing around with an N2 forgot their work could break GX(l)
<Armbian-Discord>
<Tonymac32> Or a Zero. 😉
<Armbian-Discord>
<Tonymac32> Hmmm, my older 5.10.78 boots right up
<[TheBug]>
rofl
<Teulz>
mmh and i have the idea to buy a used odroid c2 to play whith
<[TheBug]>
ohh
<[TheBug]>
hmm
<[TheBug]>
so
<[TheBug]>
my first test wasn't valid, seems sdcard was bad ;/
<[TheBug]>
I just burned new one
<[TheBug]>
I get inital boot and output on hdmi
<[TheBug]>
waiting for it to fully boot now
<[TheBug]>
aha
<[TheBug]>
well it dumped me into initramfs
<[TheBug]>
that can't be good
<[TheBug]>
lets try again..
<[TheBug]>
that is weird dumped to initramfs complaining of invalid UUID
<[TheBug]>
then I reboot
<[TheBug]>
and now no hdmi output
<[TheBug]>
okay got output third time
<[TheBug]>
running script/local-premount
<[TheBug]>
got to waiting for root file system and bails
<[TheBug]>
O_o
<[TheBug]>
well I did get video output but it isn't booting
<[TheBug]>
very weird
<Teulz>
strange
<[TheBug]>
let try 3rd time
<[TheBug]>
maybe charm
<Teulz>
*xX
<Teulz>
finger crossing
<[TheBug]>
I am reburning that image and downloaded also the one I told you too
<[TheBug]>
if this produces issues I will test the one I said for you next
<[TheBug]>
if I can replicate the issue then easier to debug
<Armbian-Discord>
<Tonymac32> I am going to update to the newest kernel on my running image
<archetech>
dpkg or armb-config
<Armbian-Discord>
<Tonymac32> Dpkg first. Given it's still 5.10
<Armbian-Discord>
<Tonymac32> If that boots I'll update U-boot. At least see if I can narrow it down
lemonzest has quit [Quit: WeeChat 3.5]
<[TheBug]>
hmm I am wondering if HDMI isn't working on first boot some reason because I am thinking the way I reached initramfs issue is I interupted it before during the resize process breaking the image
<[TheBug]>
I am gonna let it sit for a few and see if it reboots and comes up
<Armbian-Discord>
<Tonymac32> Not a lot of action on the kernel, U-boot has had some seemingly unrelated things going on
<[TheBug]>
odd now I am not getting hdmi output at all again from this, will try the older image now and see if its the same
<[TheBug]>
okay I reseated the sdcard
<[TheBug]>
wow maybe my sdcard readers on the out
<[TheBug]>
back to same issue initramfs O_o
<[TheBug]>
I am sus
<Armbian-Discord>
<Tonymac32> hmm
<Armbian-Discord>
<Tonymac32> I'm on extra slow wifi in the corner of the house so the update is taking a while
<[TheBug]>
well if this other image fails I will burn to am emmc to test
<[TheBug]>
cause thats too weird
<archetech>
idk what happ but I got a fresh armbian ubu 22 on my n2 and its missing /dtb-5.17.4
<archetech>
and uInitrd
<archetech>
what aeasy fast way to get em back
<archetech>
chroot in and apt installl blah?
<archetech>
sudo apt install --reinstall I think
<Armbian-Discord>
<Tonymac32> dunno. OK, C2 died on apt update
<[TheBug]>
wah wah wah
<[TheBug]>
that other image didn't boot either, I am backing up emmc so I can write to it and test with it
<[TheBug]>
im kinda hoping my sdcard reader isn't fubar :z but
<[TheBug]>
I did have it roast an sdcard in there before so.. maybe it is bad lol
<Teulz>
lol
<[TheBug]>
well i have had my c2 for.... many years
<[TheBug]>
and it used to sit as media player under tv and was only used sometimes
<[TheBug]>
and during that time it killed it's sdcard from heat cause my fan died in the enclosure
<[TheBug]>
Man I wish I could remember the guy who sent me that case, was awesome I was chatting in the day in #odroid with a bunch of people and this guy decided to make a few on his CNC equipment and he sent it to me for free
<[TheBug]>
but supposedly he makes other cases
<archetech>
so whats the 5.17.4 package to install called on armbian
<archetech>
kernel
<[TheBug]>
okay
<[TheBug]>
I got HDMI output on emmc
<[TheBug]>
and it is booting normally on
<[TheBug]>
5.10.110_cinnamon_desktop
<[TheBug]>
so that is interesting
<[TheBug]>
I wonder
<[TheBug]>
is there something that would let is boot from emmc and not sdcard
<[TheBug]>
I will burn sdcard again
<[TheBug]>
and maybe mount it and see
<[TheBug]>
Teulz: is interesting cause by the fact you gave armbianmonitor -u output I assume the board was booting
<[TheBug]>
just no hdmi output for you?
<[TheBug]>
If so, can you tell what monitor you have exactly?
<Teulz>
yes it boot but no hdmi
<[TheBug]>
i want to look up resolution support and such
<steev>
fixup the paths in that, and you should be good
<[TheBug]>
I don't think he is seeing the console either
<steev>
console, won't be done, unfortunately, i never bothered to figure that out
<[TheBug]>
ahh basically it will skip console
<[TheBug]>
and you will get to load xwin
<[TheBug]>
I get it
<steev>
i pointed out the issue to mainline ages ago and sadly, neil could never think of a good way to deal with it
<[TheBug]>
hmm
<[TheBug]>
So Teulz what he is saying is there is some math problem when it tries to accomidate your screen, there is manual work around for X windows where if you modify the script to force the setting to be slightly smaller it works
<steev>
yeah, it can't do the math correctly for 1366x768, but if you do 1360x768, it works "fine"
