cr1901 changed the topic of ##yamahasynths to: Channel dedicated to questions and discussion of Yamaha FM Synthesizer internals and corresponding REing. Discussion of synthesis methods similar to the Yamaha line of chips, Sound Blasters + clones, PCM chips like RF5C68, and CD theory of operation are also on-topic. <Lord_Nightmare> Foone: if you're serious about https://twitter.com/Foone/status/1434717281032949764...
<Lord_Nightmare> IIRC the pentium FPU uses a radix-4 division lookup table (related to using a tweaked radix-4 multiplier to do fast division?) and the last 5 entries of this table, which I believe are all supposed to be -2 (the table stores one of 5 values for each cell: -2, -1, 0, 1 or 2), are instead 0
<Lord_Nightmare> on the bugged CPU
<Lord_Nightmare> due to an accidentally truncated intelhex file during tapeout
<Lord_Nightmare> ... nevermind, the wikipedia page has a better description, and i was wrong anyway: the missing values should be +2, not -2

<alexisvl> was it really a truncated file???
<Lord_Nightmare> i remember reading that somewhere
<Lord_Nightmare> i think it was an intelhex file with a 'short' line at the end holding only 5 bytes, and either someone forgot to copy that last shorter segment, OR the parser code that read the file barfed when it found a line holding less than 16 bytes

<andlabs> and that tweet no longer exists so I don't know what it says
<andlabs> but
<andlabs> I now know that "intelhex file during tapeout" is part of the CPU design process >:3
<andlabs> I assume intelhex is like .S28 files on motorola
<cr1901> intelhex and srecords are for describing (EP)ROM contents
<andlabs> finally closing the vintage computers listing tab I had open in ebay for most if not all of the past 12 months because I've finally gone way too far, whee
<andlabs> now I just need to slowly close all the item tabs I have open
<qu1j0t3> lol
<qu1j0t3> yes
<qu1j0t3> i support your closings
