Guest15: 1) locate bsp layer 2) read its documentation.
<LetoThe2nd>
Guest15: 3), 4), and so on might depend on the outcome of those.

Thanks

hello! is it okay for a recipe to build correctly using devtool modify <recipe> and devtool build <recipe>, but not with devtool modify <recipe> and bitbake <recipe> ?
florian has joined #yocto
<jstephan>
(devtool build command is not building all tasks, for example it is not building the do_populate_lic, which is failling when using devtool modify then bitbake )

jstephan, no, direct bitbake should work

kanavin_: ok. is there a particular reason to have a devtool build command then?
<kanavin_>
jstephan, for purposes of esdk which by design obscures bitbake, and everything is done through devtool
<kanavin_>
if you are not in an esdk, then bitbake should work exactly same as when building a plain recipe in all circumstances

landgraf: the magic is just that by setting after the class you override the setting. Since it is a single value in a class, it should really be using ??= in the class

<Xogium>
if I wish to override features provided by a machine config file in a bsp layer, what's the right place to do it ? The local.conf file, or...
<Xogium>
it's still the same hardware, so I don't think I need to create a different machine...
<rburton>
your distro conf
<rburton>
in a production environment you have a distro and local.conf is just a few lines
<Xogium>
I don't have a distro of my own yet, as I'm still learning
<Xogium>
so I use the vendor distro for now
<rburton>
fine, local.conf for now
<rburton>
though it's relatively trivial to inherit existing machines and extend them if you end up doing more complex changes
<derRichard>
why are you removing XmbLookupString() from xev?
vladest has quit [Ping timeout: 264 seconds]
<RP>
derRichard: diet-x11 was a cut down version of libx11 which only had a subset of features. I think we dropped that and that patch is probably a historical remnant
<RP>
rburton: ^^^? has your name on it (ross@OH no less)
<derRichard>
i found this because i'm hunting an issue where german umlauts don't show up in xorg
<derRichard>
umlauts (in utf8) can get printed just fine but when typed in the keyboard nothing happens. xev reports that XLookupString() cannot lookup the key
<RP>
derRichard: I think the patch can just be dropped. I'll need to run a test build to be sure but I'm fairly sure it will be obsolete

rburton: there are a few questionable x patches. The libxcomposite one for example
alperak has joined #yocto
<rburton>
RP: that screams rebuilds with shared sysroot, so yeah nuke that too
<rburton>
RP zeddii: do you have a timeline for removing 6.1 kernel from master?
<zeddii>
check #yp-infra from about 2 minutes ago
vladest has joined #yocto
<RP>
rburton: it was just removed from meta-yocto-bsp
<rburton>
but the recipe itself exists. we have BSPs using it because they've not yet migrated to 6.6.
<rburton>
if i have a feeling for when the kernel will disappear, we can plan for that
<zeddii>
there's no time like now!
<rburton>
the migration happens in february. you can find out more in a weeks time ;)

farslan: "good luck". qemu's build is "interesting".
<rburton>
that's because the meson code wants to run test code and you don't have qemu-usermode, presumably because either your target doesn't support qemu-user, or their meson glue is actively breaking our cross files.
