<whereiseveryone> has anyone written a wm in hare?
<leon-p> you should probably ask in their IRC channel
<leon-p> I am sure it can use C libs though, so why not
<whereiseveryone> leon-p: ok, thnx
<waleee> ( #hare )
<leon-p> would probably be a fun weekend project to revive drews wio in hare
<leon-p> with the scene graph API, you can likely get rid of at least half the logic
* waleee sees a familiar name in the commit logs
<leon-p> wio is where I first started hacking around with wayland
<leon-p> I tried to write an X WM at the time, which made me strongly dislike X11
<leon-p> had lots of fun with it
<leon-p> on my own branch, I added tiling and even primitive IPC
<leon-p> a few weeks later I tried writing my own, then accidentally ran into ifreund on IRC and now I am here

<guest30> hello
<guest30> this is my first time using IRC, so I'm not sure what the etiquette is like
<guest30> can someone offer advice/help: how can I set startup apps in my `init` file
<leon-p> the init file is just a shell script, so you can launch applications from there just like you'd do in a shell
<leon-p> although you can also just add `riverctl spawn <command>` lines
<guest30> When I tried just executing the command (like `waybar` then `lxpolkit &` then river's keymaps didn't work
<leon-p> it being a shell script means you have to think about shell control flow
<leon-p> if a command does not return, all commands following it will never be executed
<guest30> will using `riverctl spawn command` remove the need for a return?
<leon-p> yes, because the riverctl command does return as soon as it send the message to river
<guest30> thank you
