I installed river and foot and some graphics drivers through my package manager. Then I downloaded the example river conf from github and placed it in The Correct Place. When I ran river from the tty it launched up fine and gave me the default blu-ish bg and a movable mouse. The only issue was that I couldn't launch foot. Does anyone have an idea what might be wrong? I will happily provide further

information.

I have confirmed that foot works in Weston, and shortcuts seem to work in river, bc Super+Shift+E exits river.

One weird thing is that always when river is running I see a defunct instance of 'sh' in 'ps -e'.

jj_: is your init file 100% executable?
<jj_>
It's permissions are '-rwxr-xr-x' and it's owned by me. It's in $HOME/.config/river/init
<ifreund>
the best way to figure out what's happening would be to get a log, do `river -log-level debug > river.log 2>&1` from the tty to capture everything

Hmm, I can try. I'm also new to IRC and my client WeeChat, so I'm very unsure on how to send files. I'm currently in the tty, because I haven't got river to work yet...
<ifreund>
note that you should still be able to switch ttys away from river to kill it with the standard keybindings even if the configuration doesn't work
<ifreund>
sending files over IRC generally means using a pastebin service of some kind, I like https://0x0.st
<ifreund>
just curl -F'file=@yourfile.png' https://0x0.st
