Hi, I'm quite new to river/wayland and have previously used bspwm on X. Does river (or some other wayland utility) provide similar functionality to bspwm's rules (https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Bspwm#Rules)? They basically allow you to specify that certain applications will always e.g. open on a certain tag, or even that certain applications will
<Guest49>
open on the next unoccupied tag. Is similar behaviour possible with river, and if not, with any other wayland tiling window manager (e.g. sway)? Thanks!

Guest49: nope, this is not possible on river yet, rules can only be used to make a window floating or not and for csd/ssd

Do you know if river plans to support this feature in the future? As far as I can tell, sway has "Criteria", which seem to provide the functionality that I am looking for.

<ifreund>
I'd merge a high quality patch extending the rules system to support assigning tags
<ifreund>
It's not something I'm currently planning on working on though

Hello, I have a question. When starting river, is it possible to have applications automatically started and sent to specific workspaces/tags?
<Guest59>
For example, firefox to workspace 2 and a terminal to 9.
<Guest59>
I looked at the example river init and saw that they were sending the current view to the tag with the Super+Shift+Control combo, but applications like firefox can take a few seconds to pop up, so I'm not sure if it will work if I place something like this in my config file:
<Guest59>
riverctl spawn firefox
<Guest59>
riverctl toggle-view-tags 2
<Guest59>
Currently away from my void machine so I cannot test it right now. Thoughts appreciated.
