<drmpeg> Tenkawa: There's a patch to disable the crypto driver included. That's what started the discussion this morning (west coast time).
<drmpeg> So it's mainline plus 6 patches.
<drmpeg> 2 to set the CPU clock to 1.5 GHZ.
<drmpeg> 1 include the PWM driver.
<drmpeg> 1 to include the final PCIe patch that was considered too much of a hack.
<drmpeg> 1 to disable the crypto unit.
<drmpeg> And 1 to enable the green LED heartbeat. I threw that on in because I like blinky lights.
<Tenkawa> drmpeg: is this the driver in question?
<Tenkawa> jh7110_crypto 36864 0
<Tenkawa> crypto_engine 12288 1 jh7110_crypto
<drmpeg> I think so.
<Tenkawa> drmpeg: how hard is it to "re-enable" the potential panic behaviour if so.. I'm curious is this happens on a v1.3b waveshare board
<Tenkawa> is there a revert patch?
<drmpeg> It's just one line in the dtb.
<Tenkawa> Ahh
<Tenkawa> thats easy enough
<drmpeg> In arch/riscv/boot/dts/starfive/jh7110.dtsi
<drmpeg> line 942
<drmpeg> delete
<Tenkawa> oops... looks like I just RCU stalled it
<drmpeg> status = "disabled";
<Tenkawa> Let me rebooto
<Tenkawa> er reboot
<Tenkawa> ok here goes reboot with enable test
<Tenkawa> here's what I get
<Tenkawa> [ 11.343221] jh7110-crypto 16000000.crypto: error -ENODEV: Error requesting tx dma channel.
<drmpeg> Same here when I tried it this morning.
<drmpeg> So it seems not as broken now.
<drmpeg> But still not quite right.
<Tenkawa> nod
<Tenkawa> I'll do some tracing in the morning after I stop by if you haven't figured it out
<drmpeg> I'm not going to look at it.
<Tenkawa> (my brain doesn't do well at night)
<Tenkawa> I'm an extreme morning person
<Tenkawa> But this is great progress... thanks for the efforts so far....
<drmpeg> Yeah, it's very close to mainline. That is if you don't care about graphics.
<Tenkawa> Everyone is keeping this going and making it a very interesting project
<Tenkawa> drmpeg: I haven't used graphics on anything other thsn my input machine in almost 10 years except for testing
<drmpeg> Likewise.
<Tenkawa> Cheers for now... I'll be back tomorrow... going to finish watching a local futbol tourney on tv.

<ganboing> Bought the Unmatched ~1 month back after the price drop. Compared to jh7110. Pros: simplified peripheral/clock/gpio, builtin FT2232HL for JTAG+UART. Cons: low core freq (1.2Ghz vs 1.5Ghz), no L2 prefetcher, DDR capped at 1600MT due to stability issue, rudimentary peripherals (no GPU). Thought: great for debugging/experiments, not suitable for daily
<ganboing> drive without a compatible GPU.

<mps> hm
<mps> interesting to read
<courmisch> quite the Alibooboo
<mps> NC
<jrtc27> I don't even understand how you design a chip where that's possible to do by accident
<courmisch> I guess that they half-implemented vse128.v, seen as it's reserved but not actually part of the spec
<courmisch> there is a silver lining: now we have a nail on the coffin for XTheadVector
<davidlt> I guess they just rushed it out
BootLayer has quit [Quit: Leaving]
<jrtc27> but surely all loads and stores just get funnelled through the same "here is the address, do the right thing" unit
<jrtc27> unless they just left a wire disconnected for that particular decoding and didn't forward on the privilege mode, or something
<jrtc27> maybe?
<courmisch> we'll probably never know
<courmisch> but yeah, sounds like it's running as if it were M mode?

<mps> CPUs have bugs, not a big news
<courmisch> seems not; I can only find stuff for last year's RDINSTRET and RDCYCLE, and then the PoC for C910
<courmisch> at least vse128.v is illegal on X60
<courmisch> as is the C908-crashing vector mask instruction
