<riscv-dev>
mornig guys so we have a desktop working on the vf1 and beaglev
<riscv-dev>
and overall its working well
<riscv-dev>
cpu is a little slow but we loaded up firefox and libreoffice and they work
<riscv-dev>
1 have 55 working desktops for the VF1 and the Beagle5 . and as it stands we need a conatact at visionfive as the vender kernel branch is broken
<riscv-dev>
55 / 5
<conchuod>
Define broken please :)
<riscv-dev>
currently the gb port is not working
billchenchina has quit [Ping timeout: 255 seconds]
<riscv-dev>
the fb driver is not working
<riscv-dev>
so no hdmi out
<Esmil>
riscv-dev: which tree/branch is this?
<riscv-dev>
the starfive vender kernel 5.15
<Esmil>
also i doubt you will get much support from starfive since the jh7100 on the vf1 and starlight boards was really just a test chip for the jh7110
jay321 has joined #riscv
<riscv-dev>
this is for the vf2
<riscv-dev>
the vf1 is worming i am on it now
<Tenkawa>
Esmil: btw wanted to let you know if you need anyone to help test with mainline kernel changes/experiments... I'm volunteering. I have no daily obligations anymore so this and arm64 devel is my daily life (has been for quite a while now) so if you ever do want to just throw something you need a volunteer at... feel free.
<dramforever>
I don't know if these are 'normal' though
<Tenkawa>
dramforever: one works one doesn't
<Tenkawa>
right?
<dramforever>
both works, but the error rate is a bit high
<Esmil>
dramforever: yeah, i wanted to look into that and add more of their proposed drivers to the branch, but there are only so many hours in the day ;)
<Tenkawa>
Which unit/kernel is this?
<dramforever>
esmil/linux branch jh7110
<Esmil>
dramforever: ..but if you fiddle with the numbers in the phy descripton and find some values work better, let me know ;)
<Tenkawa>
Ok.. I'm going to build a kernel and give it a try..
<Tenkawa>
I run headless so I don't use much hardware
<dramforever>
i don't think the jh7110 branch has working hdmi anyway?
<Esmil>
Tenkawa: yeah, serial, mmc and ethernet is basically all that's working in my jh7110 branch right now
<Tenkawa>
Esmil: one thing I did notice is different dtb revisions... is the board version printed on the board?
<Esmil>
yes, the silkscreen on your board should say either 1.2A or 1.3B
<dramforever>
yes, it's next to the large 'StarFive' text and logo
<Tenkawa>
ok thanks
<Tenkawa>
interesting
<dramforever>
between the ddr ram (i think) and the main processor soc, look at 'StarFive' just keep reading to the right
<Tenkawa>
only a 1.2a
<Tenkawa>
and I "just" got it a week ago
<dramforever>
the 'super early bird' one is 1.2a? i'm not so sure
<Tenkawa>
Now I feel... shorted
<Tenkawa>
Oh well
<Tenkawa>
Oh.. no usb yet..
<Esmil>
Tenkawa: i think the only difference is that 1.2A might have problems if you connect it to a non gigabit switch
rurtty has quit [Quit: Leaving]
<Esmil>
Tenkawa: no, no usb driver was sent upstream either
<Tenkawa>
My root is on usb.. that might be why my test failed
<Tenkawa>
I saw it get part way through t he serial boot
<Tenkawa>
it didn't get past my chainload from the emmc extlinux handoff
<Tenkawa>
now I see why
<dramforever>
oh by the way the reason i was having trouble with linux is nixpkgs had a script that processes user-defined configs and answered 'm' whenever possible even if it defaults to 'y'
<dramforever>
they have a switch for turning this off, but this really tripped me up because it meant the clock drivers etc are all 'm' instead of 'y' in the normal defconfig
<dramforever>
i guess they didn't want to ship a huge config file just to say 'm' a whole bunch of times
<dramforever>
*having trouble with linux config. anyway this is just a tangentially relevant update to my previous attempts

conchuod: I guess it's time for me to rewrite KVM in Rust :-)
<conchuod>
drewj: I feel like I'm missing something obvious as to why I can't just enable it
riscv-dev has joined #riscv
<drewj>
conchuod: it was joke (I don't plan to rewrite KVM in Rust, as fun as that would be)
<drewj>
conchuod: I am curious what the first Rust module for RISC-V is going to be though
<conchuod>
Oh I know it was
<conchuod>
If the FPGA lot won't let me have the auto upgrade driver I posted, I'll implement the bit I need in kernel as Rust
<conchuod>
But no interest in racing!
<Tenkawa>
no interest in racing?

drewj: kvm on what soc?
<drewj>
all that have H-ext.
<conchuod>
drewj: Do you know if sunil is planning a resend of acpi soon, or gonna wait til after -rc1?
<bjdooks>
is that just the thead?
<drewj>
but my KVM reference was just attempting to poke fun at enabling Rust support for RISC-V (but I'm ok with enabling the support even if there's no use case yet)
<bjdooks>
it is almost beer-o-clock, so will be unlikely to be around until monday
<drewj>
conchuod: He's actively working on the version now, but I'm not sure if he'll send over the weekend or not. I'll try pinging him on internal slack
<conchuod>
drewj: I see. It's the first thing in my todo list, but no point looking if it is going to be superseded imminently.

conchuod: He doesn't plan to post this weekend.
<conchuod>
drewj: I don't mind, as long as the next revision doesn't land as I am looking at it ocs it'll probably take me more than one evening
<drewj>
conchuod: nod, he won't post the next revision if you're actively reviewing this one
<conchuod>
tbh, I wasn't gonna look til Monday so don't let me hold him up.
<conchuod>
And I see more vector support has arrived too, lots to do!
<bjdooks>
who wants to take a bet we'll see a vector capable soc before the support is in
<drewj>
ok, he told me he planned to post Tuesday-ish
<conchuod>
Yah, then I'll just wait then. Easier for everyone I think :)
<drewj>
ack
