<smaeul> rneese: yes, Ox64 development is quite active, but still early, as the vendor is not interested in Linux beyond a demo
<rneese> ahh
<smaeul> the complication is that the "Linux-capable" C906 CPU is bolted onto the side of an existing MCU, so Linux has to go through the MCU for some hardware access, specifically most interrupts
<smaeul> I put "Linux-capable" in quotes because I actually have NOMMU Linux running on the 32-bit E907 core: https://tpaste.us/BJ64
<rneese> 3 friends got them for testing and have had them on the desk not know what to run on them
<rneese> they wantes a rtos
<rneese> and micropyton
crossdev has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<smaeul> for RTOS, they can use the vendor SDK or https://github.com/openbouffalo/OBLFR
<muurkha> having a separate MCU to run your interrupt handlers on sounds ideal, really
<smaeul> btw has anyone though about how the DT bindings for CLIC should work? currently, Linux assumes a riscv,cpu-intc node will exist, but CLIC sort of replaces that
<conchuod> Jisheng started doing some work on bl808 support
<conchuod> Or rather, started upstreaming - i dunno if he started it
<smaeul> I think that was mostly a cleaned-up version of the vendor demo code
<rneese> to clean the code up
<rneese> wrong winder
<conchuod> I chickened out of asking the pine64 guys for one at fosdem, probably should've at least tried it!
<conchuod> Would've happily paid for it, but too shy to ask.
<rneese> yeah now they are out of stock and I wold like one for playing around
<conchuod> smaeul: re clic, I've not seen anything dt-binding wise. Have you?
<smaeul> no, that's why I'm asking
<smaeul> my current implementation has the CLIC irqdomain stacked on top of the riscv,cpu-intc, but I think that's wrong, and CLIC should use set_handle_irq() with its own handler
Andre_Z has joined #riscv
<rneese> the bl808 would be good for learning rust on
<rneese> build and put rustos on it
<conchuod> I'll add the clic spec & the 0x64/bl808 docs to my reading list.. My gut feeling is the same as yours though.
KombuchaKip has joined #riscv
<smaeul> fwiw the "CLIC v0.8" spec, as implemented by E907, is really hard to find, since it was not tagged: https://github.com/riscv/riscv-fast-interrupt/blob/74f86c38580b40e40738465f28c66dbfb6517774/clic.adoc
<conchuod> Ahh, pre 1.0 spec, everyone's favourite :)
<conchuod> Thanks!

<jrtc27> the CLIC is a disgusting mess that abuses status registers as control registers, among other things
rurtty has joined #riscv
<smaeul> I tend to agree... and then T-HEAD added custom extensions on top of it to push registers and switch stacks in hardware.
BootLayer has quit [Quit: Leaving]
<geist> agreed. the CLIC stuff is clearly influenced by the ARM cottex-m style interrupt stuff
<geist> works well for embedded (the ARM bits) but that style of interrupt handling is really hard to coexist with 'regular' style
<geist> someone submitted a patch to my kernel to support CLIC, but it was so intrusive it was not takable

<rneese> I hope when they do a redesign the swal the usb-c and headset/speaker port
<rneese> the power should also be a barrel jack as usb-c / usb ports where not ment to be power plugs
<rneese> and become loose and unstable
<rneese> and the power should point out the back
