<bjdooks> hmm, 2TB NVME are coming down in price
<bjdooks> I can't do much patch testing, i left my unmatched board at work due to needing more rv64 at work

<rneese> irc is nice but this gives a place to post files and have channels based on the boards the os and the desktops all in 1 place
<rneese> and if you wish to voicechat we have that also
<rneese> but your choice and thats fine
<ball> It sounds nice but I already deleted my Discord account.
<mps> use closed source for open source ;p

<ball> mps: I wasn't even sure Discord was open source but it's one more firehose aimed at me and I fealt like I never caught up with it.
<mps> ball: iirc discord is proprietary and not open source
<rneese> I just posted to allow others to join not start any issues
<ball> rneese: It's good for people to have options. Thanks for setting up the Discord.
<ball> For one thing, Discort may suit (and attract) people who don't use irc.
<ball> ...so that's nice.

<conchuod> There's a v3 of that IIRC but I'd imagine it needs a rebase
<pierce> Do you have a link? That was the only patch I could find
<conchuod> It's still from quite a while ago and doesn't apply
<jrtc27> please for the love of god don't eat up hwcap2 bits with z* things
<conchuod> I'm bored, I'll go see how badly it doesn't apply
<jrtc27> you really do not want to run out of bits by doing frivolous things like that
<conchuod> That would be my opinion too. That series alone uses like 50% of it.

<jrtc27> we need a standard interface for https://github.com/riscv-non-isa/riscv-c-api-doc and the linux-specific implementation backing that
<pierce> <jrtc27> "you really do not want to run..." <- Run out of bits in hwcaps2?

<jrtc27> all this work to use .insn rather than -march is sad, you won't get the extensions in the ELF attributes and thus the instructions won't be disassembled unless you override it in your disassembler (--mattr=+foo for llvm-objdump, don't ask me how you do it for anything else)
BootLayer has quit [Quit: Leaving]
<conchuod> jrtc27: do you think we should use the insn versions for older toolchains or leave it as is & disallow the extensions in the absence of toolchain support?

<jrtc27> in an ideal world you'd probably use insn solely as a fallback for when the toolchain doesn't support the extension
<jrtc27> but that's the most code of any option for solely aesthetic gains...

<conchuod> jrtc27: If I understand you correctly, I disagree that it's aesthetic.
ball has left #riscv [#riscv]
<conchuod> Support for more toolchains and elf attributes without messing around manually doesn't sound aesthetic to me
