conchuod: I think the only thing I'd do is have some way for it to play nice with a merge base that's specified in the patch/pr. In this case if they're different the command-line just overrides things, sometimes I just assume the rc1 is OK and spend a few minutes realizing it's not

we had so many rounds of SDKs I don't even really remember what was what ;)

Nah its the makefile wrapper around buildroot that builds the spl, opensbi, kernel etc

that thing always screamed of "we bodged this thing together so that something worked" and took forever to move to something more "polished"

palmer: my first job at microchip was getting that to work again cos sifive had abandoned it for yocto and our customers wanted buildroot w/ a new kernel/u-boot
