<solrize> hah for some reason i thought pjrc teensies used stm32's but they use nxp parts. oh well
<solrize> https://www.adafruit.com/product/4877 i guess there is this, if it is a real stm32
<solrize> looks like st's own eval boards still sort of exist, and digikey claims to have some in stock
<muurkha> solrize: I ordered some from Adafruit and some (Adafruit's breakout board still) from Digi-Key. they are bezel-less and that may be a problem
<muurkha> presumably both adafruit and digi-key do rigorous supply chain controls to keep people from substituting CKS or GD parts
<solrize> black pill is a fancier version of blue pill which was always a chinese clone of the old maple mini board. idk about adafruit's black pill but i guess st's boards are as generic as it gets

<gordonDrogon> muurkha, ^

<gordonDrogon> https://www.clockworkpi.com/product-page/devterm-kit-r01 is their actual website.
<gordonDrogon> I'd love to target my little retro BCPL OS to it, but it's just a little "too much"
<muurkha> 1GiB of DDR3 sounds power-hungry
<gordonDrogon> it probably is, but it's a nice concept - in a retro sort of way.
<muurkha> I didn't know Allwinner had an RV64
<gordonDrogon> me neither - but it looks like it's on an Pi CM3 module format too - intersting in many ways...
<muurkha> https://www.hackster.io/news/meet-nezha-a-99-64-bit-linux-sbc-for-iot-0ee55f3fc2b1 says the Allwinner D1 is based on a "T-Head XuanTie C906 core"
<muurkha> https://www.hackster.io/news/mangopi-mq1-is-an-ultra-compact-soon-to-be-open-source-allwinner-d1-risc-v-dev-board-eb5388783a0e touts a US$39 "MangoPi" devboard on the "Allwinner F133-A" "variant of the D1"
<muurkha> with 64MiB of onboard RAM
<muurkha> so maybe Pingtouge has been renamed T-Head, at least in English?
cwebber has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<gordonDrogon> feels like some folks are using RISC-V like the Pi progressions - no bad thing in my books...
cwebber has joined #riscv
<muurkha> the Pi progressions?
<gordonDrogon> Pi 1, 2, 3, 4, Zero, etc.
<muurkha> ah
<gordonDrogon> so maybe "testing the water" with RISC-V to see if they can persuade some of the Pi crowd to come over to the free side ...
<muurkha> yeah, I think that's explicitly the intent of this board
Andre_H has joined #riscv
<muurkha> though with "only" 64MiB it may be limited
<gordonDrogon> that's 63 more than I need :)
<muurkha> heh

<geist> oh that does look cute. would fit right in next to my old TRS-80 Model 100
<muurkha> I think it may be a little bit smaller; reviews say the keys are too close together: https://artvsentropy.wordpress.com/2022/01/15/writing-on-the-devterm/
<muurkha> "The computer’s size is similar to very small PDAs, like the HP 200LX or the Casio Cassiopeia when opened flat, rather than bigger or foldable devices like the MobileGear or Pomera."
<geist> yeah was just reading that. bummer
<geist> would be double annoying because the model 100 i have has a *fantastic* keyboard. very good to type on

<muurkha> yeah, the Model 100 keyboard was pretty decent. I wouldn't go so far as "fantastic", I think it's a little mushy

<solrize> thermal printer?
<solrize> One more thing, just like LEGO, Gundam, Tamiya, the unique unboxing experience will be as exciting as many assembled toys. oh noes
<muurkha> yeah, the thermal printer is pretty uck
<muurkha> but whatever, you don't have to use it
<solrize> it has a cooling fan
<solrize> the printer interests me
<solrize> oh i see, it sticks out the back
alangm has quit [Quit: Leaving]
<solrize> what are the knobs on the sides for?
<solrize> Based on the current supply chain and logistics situation, the estimated delivery time is approximately 60 business days. arggh
<solrize> wake me up when it's in stock
Sofia has quit [Ping timeout: 240 seconds]
<[exa]> solrize: I guess the knobs are basically holding it together, looks like it's for easy disassembly
<[exa]> btw I guess that's the ultimate open portable IRC machine
<gordonDrogon> if you could buy it in bits - e.g. no printer...
Sofia has joined #riscv
<gordonDrogon> but the epson hx20 had a printer - what else - Aim65... I have the casio 1500 pocket computer and pen plotter/printer..
<[exa]> actually it kinda reminds me the tiny printer I got with mz800
<[exa]> it's thermal not pen, but man, there's something common in the shape....
<solrize> i'd want the printer. adafruit has printers like that and i was looking for them, and there are some 80mm ones on ebay
<solrize> i was thinking of setting something like that up to leave messages for my mom
<[exa]> also for printing them good jokes from irc, when they appear
<solrize> ha
