Pa perhaps, using an external editor forces your hand as you have to create a file that openscad can open and the editor can edit and write to. I've gotten into the habit of creating my .scad file and then opening it to start the proccess

guso78 let me know if you run into any mac build issues. It should be pretty straight-forward these days, but I'm not using the newest macOS daily yet

teepee, sound like ,that you got a Mac long time before end of support. (did not take the time to look up the time). in any case, I believe, that every product is well established, when its support ends.
<teepee>
that is not the problem, the issue is their total ignorance of real world cases and support of development
<teepee>
if you want to do development, you *must* use the latest version of *their* software
<teepee>
if you *have* to use the latest software, you *must* buy the latest hardware otherwise it will not be compatible
<teepee>
if you want to develop for like the 3 last versions of ios, why not buy 3 iphones and keep the old ones on older ios versions
<teepee>
in my view it's a cult for people who don't need to care about money

<buZz>
i love those iOS annoyances , its so dumb
<buZz>
you cant install a app on iOS 'old version' , or any app , BUT
<buZz>
you can login with -same- appleID on a -newer- iOS device, install the app, reboot the old iOS and boom, you just get (a older version of) the app installed
<buZz>
so , to use a cheap apple phone ( like second hand )
<buZz>
you -also- need a expensive apple phone
<buZz>
:D

I can compile opens cad on Mac, but as soon as I use macdeployqt on it, it alters the data such opens cad will crash on startup, even when I directly launch it as OpenSCAD.app/Contents/MacOS/OpenSCAD
<guso78k84>
any clues ?

my best guess would be that it has mis matched the library headers that openscad was built against compared to the library binaries it is running against

this sounds only familiar for some reason

Scopeuk, thank you for your suggestion. It *does* run, but macdeployqt alters EVERYTHING in the OpenSCAD.app directory, even the binary and then it won't work anymore, but crashes with a nice report. log is here https://bpa.st/AHLA

yeah, that was slicing in cura with standard settings.. I have some extra-fast profile that can do it in 1hr14mins, though it probably wouldn't turn out nice since it's coarse
<t4nk_fn>
don't know much about printing, really :)
<t4nk_fn>
don't even know how they got the time down to 15mins, it takes double that time when I slice it
<t4nk_fn>
anyhow; was just running openscad, and I saw that PR about opening stl files from a (the) file dialog..
<t4nk_fn>
it would at least be handy to add an 'all supported file types' to the list, and perhaps remember the choice
<t4nk_fn>
and maybe a checkbox for importing it into the existing file orsth
<t4nk_fn>
shown when an 'importable' filetype is selected
