how or origins handled in stl files. When exporting from openscad 2 different stl's whose objects complement eachother (stacking and such) the render seems fine, but when importing into a slicer the objects never line up like they should. Is this something the cad can place data in or the slicer bneeding to evaluate data and not approximate center of mass?
<peepsalot>
the slicer has complete control over placement. if you stack two objects and export into separate STL, then the slicer will likely move individual objects to rest on the bed
<Lagopus>
Surprisingly Z axis is perfect. The stl's are imported both at 0 0 but it looks as though the 'center of mass' or volume is found and placed at the origin (all stl's overlap, but not appropriately). Rotation/orientation is good, but X & Y need to be adjusted and I am not sure how far. Well if it's a slicer issue then I'll either need to reread all my options there or ...
<J23k50>
i like 3mf as the object position is used and you can print inlays into a model without merging them.
<Lagopus>
just finished attempting to import amf's. same issue. 3mf not export option on version 2021.01 it seems. No matter, back to the books.

i think v. 2021 had a bug exporting to 3mf and it took ages

hm the VW beetle site is gone .. maybe only temp. but also the other site (from his git) is gone .. however passive Rider is a nice kinematic chain
<InPhase>
Lagopus: A common solution path is to have parameters in the scad file that switch between rendering pieces as separate components or as all one for an output stl, and then if you really want them to be unified in a slicer, load the combined stl file.
<teepee>
oh, did it update already?
<J23k50>
don't think so .. just saw the push
<teepee>
aha, I just checked, it should update 5:08, probably UTC?

InPhase: unfortunately I am attempting a dual-extrusion print. I still have ideas for more tactics. If any are curious I'll let you know of successful & unsuccessful results.

guso78 Are you still using macosx-build-dependencies.sh?
<kintel>
..and did you run "source scripts/setenv-macos.sh" before running the build script?
<kintel>
It kind of sounds like your system picks up a different version of Qt than was built by the script
