<tmlind>
ok looks like the lcd bridge changes got merged, so i should send the mz61x lcd dts patches after -rc1 too
<freemangordon>
tmlind: hmm, could this be some general USB issue?
<tmlind>
freemangordon: could be some usb wakeup issue on the qmi in the pinephone case, however on d4 we never get the qmi events without kicking the qmi
Livio has joined #maemo-leste

<freemangordon>
tmlind: right, but that does not mean it is not usb issue
<freemangordon>
because I don;t get usb events occasionally with quectel as well
<freemangordon>
when connected to the VM that is
<freemangordon>
when connected to may laptop with 5.15, I cannot enable PM for that device at all
<freemangordon>
so there is something fishy as I see it
<freemangordon>
*my laptop
<tmlind>
ok sounds like the linux kernel qmi usb device driver does not properly support usb wakeups, or the firmware is buggy on the modem and not doing the usb wakeup events
<tmlind>
the usb wakeup event is just some pull on one of the data lines if i remember correctly, if the usb phy does not see the event also the usb phy device driver could buggy or idle and unable to see it
<freemangordon>
yes, looks like that
<freemangordon>
FW issue perhaps, as otherwise lots of devices would have the same issues (mice, kbd, etc)
<freemangordon>
but can;t be proven without having equipment I don't have :)
<Wizzup>
freemangordon: I will take a look at this
<Wizzup>
freemangordon: I think we do

freemangordon: i think i found the problem for ringtones. PA seems the culprit: nokia ringtones from /usr/share are @11025Hz apparently so they can only be played with PA default sample rate @44100 (actually 48000 on N900 to get calls working @4000Hz)
<arno11>
so that's probably why mp3's (44100Hz) from MyDocs work (because alternate sample rate is currently 44100)
<arno11>
*mp3 ringtones
<arno11>
so it makes sense if default ringtone works on D4 (default sample rate is @44100)
<arno11>
iirc PA can use any multiple of the default sample rate but NOT from the alternate
<arno11>
and...i'm wrong lol: i'm able to use Nokia ringtones if i move them in MyDocs
<arno11>
really weird stuff, maybe only a permission issue (?)
<Wizzup>
will check this in a bit
<dsc__>
i think both my d4's are just really drained
<dsc__>
cant boot them
<dsc__>
it was on power outlet for 1 month
<dsc__>
:P
<dsc__>
which seems to indicate it wont charge too
<Wizzup>
I'll help you get this fixed
<Wizzup>
maybe tomorrow?
<Wizzup>
one thing to check is if you can still get to fastboot
<Wizzup>
(hold power + vol min)
<Wizzup>
(that's the volume button that is the furtherst away from the power button)
<dsc__>
is fastboot something different from kexecboot?
<Wizzup>
you can do this while it's connected
<Wizzup>
fastboot is what we can use to flash a new kexecboot
<dsc__>
the menu looks the same, so there are other options with fashboot?
<dsc__>
fastboot*
<dsc__>
what should I pick?
<Wizzup>
what do you see
<dsc__>
i already tried this btw, I think I picked 'stock android' but after picking that, nothing happens
<dsc__>
and sometimes the fastboot wont even come up at all
<dsc__>
(after power + vol min)
<dsc__>
like right now
<Wizzup>
so fastboot won't show 'stock android'
<Wizzup>
that's a separate thing
<dsc__>
alright
<dsc__>
then im not getting into fastboot
<Wizzup>
you need to press that like briefly, just one second or so
<Wizzup>
what charger are you using?
<dsc__>
ok from the start:
<Wizzup>
what's the amp
<dsc__>
d4 is connected to USB charger
<dsc__>
green light comes up
<dsc__>
but only one 1 droid4, the other doesnt show anything
<dsc__>
as in, doesnt show the green lighjt
<dsc__>
so
<dsc__>
power hold + vol min = nothing happens (But after 7sec the light goes off)
<Wizzup>
yes, that is the hard reset
<Wizzup>
Start the device in fastboot mode. For this press power button and bottom volume key simultaneously and release them after a second.
<Wizzup>
(from the wiki)
<Wizzup>
does that do anything?
<dsc__>
< dsc__> power hold + vol min = nothing happens (But after 7sec the light goes off)
<Wizzup>
I think we need to do this over a video meet when I get back
<Wizzup>
that will make the communication easier
<dsc__>
to get into fastboot mode I need to do "power hold + vol min" for 7 seconds right?
<dsc__>
im doing that, nothing happens :)
<Wizzup>
I did read what you said, but you need to run fastboot when it is not showing a green light, maybe with the cable out, or at least after you hard shut it off
<Wizzup>
no, I literally pasted from the wiki that it is a single second
<Wizzup>
what's the amperage on your psu?
<sicelo>
dsc__: completely power off the device first
<dsc__>
ok
<dsc__>
sicelo: and then with no cable connected, I press 'power btn + vol min' for 1 sec
<dsc__>
nothing happens
<Wizzup>
you can do it with the cable connected I think, but you need to do the 7 seconds full power down first, but yeah, try without
<dsc__>
yeah, nothing
<Wizzup>
ok, please look up the amperage on your usb power supply
<dsc__>
9.0V == 1.67A 15W
<dsc__>
5.0 == 2.0 A 10W
<dsc__>
5.0v
<Wizzup>
wait what's the 9V?
<dsc__>
it says it outputs 9V or 5V, idk
<Wizzup>
is this the one I that I bought last year?
<dsc__>
no
<Wizzup>
do you have any other usb wall chargers?
<sicelo>
dsc__: completely powered off. then, just hold the vol down (key furthest from Motorola logo), and hold power button. when you let them go, you should be in fastboot mode
<dsc__>
found another one, its 5v 4.8a 24w
<Wizzup>
sicelo: yes but his battery is very low
<Wizzup>
dsc__: wow, that's a lot, is that a regular usb wall charger?
<Wizzup>
for a rpi or something?
<dsc__>
im not sure where this came from
<dsc__>
possibly you bought it yeah
<Wizzup>
I bought one with 4 output ports on it
<Wizzup>
white or black
<dsc__>
right
<dsc__>
its this one
<dsc__>
is it a fire hazard ^^ ?
<Wizzup>
pa0221w?
<Wizzup>
no I think it's fine
<dsc__>
yeah
<Wizzup>
maybe hook one of the droid4 up to this one while I go to the shop
<dsc__>
without the 'w'
<Wizzup>
we cna pick it up afterwards
<sicelo>
if they get to kexecboot, they should be able to get into fastboot. anyway, maybe making buzz's USB condom is quickest way to recover from lowbat
<Wizzup>
w for white I suppose
<dsc__>
:P
<dsc__>
sicelo: ok, ill try
<dsc__>
sicelo: the only way I can get into kexecboot is by attaching the device to power, at which it automatically starts booting
<dsc__>
but after pressing the Leste option, it shuts down
<dsc__>
anyway, 'pwr btn + min vol' is not working
<dsc__>
Re sicelo's guiode
<dsc__>
guide
<dsc__>
ill try this new USB charger.
<sicelo>
rather try the condom ... it's no longer a matter of chargers :-p
<dsc__>
Wizzup: btw, when I get the new image, does that already have some power improvements?
<dsc__>
or do I actually need to flash something?
<dsc__>
like update kexecboot
<dsc__>
sicelo: ?
<dsc__>
oh I got into fastboot just now
<Wizzup>
newer kexecboot is able to charge
<sicelo>
dsc__: 20:39 < sicelo> ...maybe making buzz's USB condom is quickest way to recover from lowbat
<Wizzup>
just leave fastboot running with the device on the power supply for now
<Wizzup>
that can't hurt
<dsc__>
ok cool
<Wizzup>
afaik
<dsc__>
just to clarify, since I can get into fastboot now, I can now update kexecboot, which will give some charging improvements?
<Wizzup>
yes but no
<Wizzup>
fastboot needs sufficient power to allow you to flash
<dsc__>
ah
<dsc__>
fastboot says the battery is 'low' :D
<dsc__>
it aint lying
<Wizzup>
just leave it like this for a bit, or just with the screen off green light mode, I am pretty confident just leaving it like this for a while using the port charger will make it work
<Wizzup>
I've never had to resort to special methods to resurrect these things
<Wizzup>
but the charger matters
<Wizzup>
it's possible that your 5v/9v one provides very little unless there's some proper negotiation being done

<dsc_>
is it still charging?
<freemangordon>
Wizzup: ok, thanks
<freemangordon>
Wizzup: are you still able to dial a contact from addressbook of from desktop contact?
<dsc_>
Wizzup: nvm, got it all working now. So probably charging related.
<dsc_>
charger*
<dsc_>
great :)
<sicelo>
nice
<Wizzup>
freemangordon: I will try @ dialing
<Wizzup>
dsc_: so both are charging?

have not tried the other yet
