I'm on a path to replace eudev with mdevd and libudev-zero on my Alpine setup
<WhyNotHugo>
Any experiences with this and running sway on top?
<sewn>
WhyNotHugo: I've attempted to do so on alpine but alpine seems to be too interlocked with udev
<sewn>
so I'd stick with udev since it won't make any difference anyway, most of the system still sticks to regular udev
<sewn>
in kiss it works perfectly fine
<WhyNotHugo>
isn't libudev-zero a drop-in replacement with the same API as libudev? What exactly was the breakage?
<WhyNotHugo>
Right now eudev is getting in my way and my options are to write a bunch of code around libudev or remove eudev. The latter sounds more productive tbf
<WhyNotHugo>
I'd be happy with just sway and iwd working, anything else I can debug from that point

WhyNotHugo: btw libudev-zero does not emulate the whole thing, it misses some stuff and thus has issues with the udev backend of a lot of big software, check its README
<WhyNotHugo>
I did. I've replaced eudev with mdevd+libudev-zero. So far what works is: sway,wifi,bluetooth,audio,webcam

sad_plan the encryption is kinda meh compared to luks and you can't really do on-disk swap with zfs unless you create another non zfs partition to do so
<kris_>
which to me at least defeats a massive chunk of the reason of using something as complex as a volume manager
