<sad_plan> no it needs to be monday, because then im off work for the whole week :D
<riteo> kris_: holy moly 12 hours
<riteo> congrats on getting out of that mess, hope it's all pretty and tidy now
<midfavila> bweh
<midfavila> i'm looking forward to later this month at least
<midfavila> we get easter and good friday off which means four days with no work at all
<midfavila> i'm hoping to get the workstation out next month as well
<midfavila> that'll be really nice
<midfavila> i'm thinking i might just stick it in the closet and run it headless
<midfavila> then again i have space under my desk for it i think...
<kris_> riteo yeah the only thing left to do is replace the nic
<kris_> i got an actively cooled x540-t2 and the fan bearing is *fucked* so i just have the fan unplugged for now
<kris_> probably going to replace it with the same nic, just one with a larger heatsink and passively cooled
<kris_> it's very much sustaining my gig download speed though so for now its not a huge problem
fultilt has joined #kisslinux
<riteo> kris_: wait how does a nic need fans
<riteo> I don't think they absorb _that_ much power, do they?
<kris_> sometimes yeah if you're running sustained 10 gig
<kris_> this is a 10 gig nic, there are passively cooled ones but the heatsink has to be a LOT larger
<kris_> 10 gig dual port that is
<riteo> I did not expect that lol
<kris_> its fine atm though because i only have gig anyway
<kris_> "only"
<riteo> yea lol I had 200 mbits but now it's down to like 60
<riteo> doing a crapton of fiber optic work 'round here so everything's fucked
<riteo> bonus points, our network setup is cursed as we had to split the "spine" of our house in two 100 mbits connections so my bedroom has only that
<riteo> that's why I sleep with my server lol
<riteo> so that I can at least have a local gig connection to it from my desktop
<kris_> the more cursed networks are the better
<kris_> i also sleep wtih my server in my bedroom
<riteo> oh right kris did I ever talk you about my server
<kris_> i dont have like a rack server though its just a desktop build made out of mostly parts i had spare
<kris_> and a few hard drives
<kris_> and nah i dont think you did
<riteo> I did something even more cursed
<riteo> A laptop inside a computer case, three hdds braced together with a random 3d printed thing, all powered up through an atx splitter and a boost regulator to the charger
<riteo> and a crapton of hot glue
<riteo> should have the pics somewhere
<kris_> bro
<kris_> lmao
<riteo> oh right
<kris_> that's kinda like top notch
<riteo> the boot drive is an usb drive, couldn't waste a sata port
<riteo> alpine linux diskless
<sewn> chimear lin
<riteo> your favorite :P
<kris_> few years ago after my laptop was confiscated by the cops i had a chromebook with 16gb of soldered EMMC so i know how it feels
<riteo> sewn?
<kris_> i just straight up installed linux on a usb drive though, no diskless
<sewn> chimera linu
<riteo> kris_: understandable, although the diskless concept is really, really interesting
<riteo> I can boot from an usb2 drive really quickly and wear it very little
<riteo> also, transactions
<kris_> i imagine you use their tool to make changes permanent once you've set XYZ up
<riteo> yea
<kris_> it's definitely cool
<riteo> severely, SEVERELY, underdocumented
<kris_> *that* is something about alpine that is super cool
<kris_> shocker
<riteo> lmao
<riteo> but once I found out the magic order it was fire
<riteo> I found some pics but those are not the "ready for 0x0.st" ones
<kris_> my dns server blocks 0x0 anyway
<kris_> im not really sure why that's the case but i trust quad9 filters lol
<riteo> wat
<riteo> why
<riteo> btw those were the wrong pics
<riteo> I think I have those in my desktop, I'll send them later
<kris_> i have no idea why they block it
<kris_> something about it not being moderated enough
<kris_> idk my friend runs his own sharing service and generally i just use that
<riteo> i'll use that if it works for you
<kris_> ^ this is also dead simple to selfhost if you were inclined
<kris_> i ran it for a little bit but i got worried about people uploading like fucked up shit of some sort so i shut it down

<riteo> I _think_ that depending on where you live you have protections against that
<riteo> legally
<kris_> i'm american, so i dont have protections
<kris_> i would if i registered like an LLC or something to run it under
* riteo dies
<kris_> him and i have been talking about just adding something to require a login so you can run basically an invite only sharing service
<kris_> therefore you dont have to trust anyone because you only give people access that you trust
<kris_> and some form of e2ee that encrypts on the users browser or via one of the clients
<kris_> which i still need to implement some form of encryption on my bobashare client
<riteo> oh yeah e2ee would probably work around the issue very nicely
<kris_> the issue with e2ee is that it makes it more difficult for people to use
<riteo> I think that's why a lot of bad corporations want it, they can still make money on metadata while getting rid of a lot of liabilities
<kris_> because whoever you're sending a file to needs a pssphrase ofc
<riteo> just put it in the link
<kris_> but then the server has the passphrase
<kris_> or well
<kris_> hmm, you might be onto something
<kris_> the thing is, *we* don't give a shit what people share, just don't want to be held liable for what people may choose to share
<kris_> would be best if we just can't see any of it at all
<riteo> no the server doesn't need a passphrase
<riteo> mega.nz uses the fragment of the url I think
<riteo> it's not new stuff really
<kris_> right, fragment the url and the server never gets the part of this that is used to unlock it
<kris_> that isnt a bad idea
