<acheam> cem: yeah its nice that thats standardized
<acheam> im still against centralized repos though
<acheam> how've you been? been a while
<jslick> Anyone manage to update firefox for mainland kiss (wayland)? I tried building it without the no-X11 patch and installing x11 deps (so that I wouldn't have to maintain a no-X11 patch) but still using wayland but it doesn't launch

<sad_plan> jslick: if you build firefox for x11, youd need to enable xwayland for it to launch
<jslick> Even if it is running in wayland mode (e.g. MOZ_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1)? To clarify, I'm just trying to get rid of the no-X11 patch but still run it in wayland
<sad_plan> no, youd need to run it in x11 mode, as it runs under x11 instead
<sad_plan> so xwayland needs to be enabled on xorg-server, and wayland
<jslick> how are other distros able to run it under wayland? (e.g. https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/firefox#Wayland seems it would be running it as a wayland client)
<testuser[m]> Hi
<sad_plan> arch and other distros have been notorious (afaik) to enable just about everything, so installing firefox on i.e. arch, should pull in xwayland iirc
<sad_plan> hi
<jslick> yeah I'm sure they do. guess I'm just confused how they are able to run it as a wayland client. I had thought xwayland was for running x clients in wayland
<sad_plan> I tried to look for it, and on arch, it seems this may not be the case. seems xorg-xwayland is the package name for it on arch anyway.
<jslick> maybe there's still some launch code that runs in X or something. I'll try building xwayland sometime
<sad_plan> it is the way to run x11 packages on wayland. I mean, besides porting it to wayland though.
<sad_plan> I dont belive its that hard, just enable xwayland in wayland, and xorg, and you should be good to go. Ive never tried it myself, but Ive though about it at times. but Im still on xorg anyway, so its not really any issues for me tbh
<sad_plan> you may or may not need to alter the mesa package aswell, Im not sure tbh.
<jslick> Yeah, it seems ehawkvu has maintained kiss-org pretty well. Maybe I'll have to switch to it sometime. Kind of a shame, I like having a machine on wayland, but I could switch a different computer to wayland
<sad_plan> could dualboot kiss, one xorg and one wayland though. if you got the space for it
<sad_plan> or just switch for now. id like to run wayland myself, but I havent been able to figure out how to run anything usefull on velox yet. like firefox or something else Id like to run
<jslick> Yeah, problem is just finding a build of firefox that is updated for wayland. It's occurred to me I could just switch to 91 ESR for now and just apply Dylan's no-X11 patch for that version
<sad_plan> that could work aswell, and less work, assuiming itll apply
<jslick> Well I could tweak it if I needed. I just didn't want to have to maintain a no-X11 patch for Firefox 97+. ESR versions shouldn't be as difficult
<sad_plan> its probably off by a few lines if it doesnt apply, right away. understandable :p
<testuser[m]> Cluadia posted some fentoo repo for ff wayland
<testuser[m]> Gentoo
<testuser[m]> Wait
<testuser[m]> Nvm not a gentoo repo just patches
<jslick> hmmm... interesting
<jslick> Wonder what the reason is for system jpeg

<Rohan> hi
<jslick> hi, to answer your earlier question, imo yes probably time to fork kiss main repo. I'm not "in charge" though.
<Rohan> lol
<Rohan> think is time too
<Rohan> but maybe i runaway from kiss
<Rohan> go back to gentoo or something
<Rohan> but i will continue to maintain my packages
