<aaabbb>
generally speaking, is libvorbis better than ffmpeg's native twoloop aac in the 64-160kbps range?
<furq>
probably
<aaabbb>
thanks. that's what i suspected since i know libvorbis is competitive with libfdk-aac, if not quite as good

<BtbN>
Though why use libvorbis when libopus exists?
jemius has joined #ffmpeg

<johnjaye>
is there a way to warn the user when the concat operation fails?
iive has joined #ffmpeg
<johnjaye>
i've noticed if I do not use -r 30000/1001 I will get some files with non-NTSC framerates like 24 or 25. but when I plug them into the concat filter alongside 29.97 fps files the result is wrong
<johnjaye>
like it freezes and won't encode the first file with a different framerate but i can't tell if there's an error or not
<BtbN>
If you concat videos without re-encoding, they have to match perfectly. Or else the results are pretty much undefined
CruxOfTheB has joined #ffmpeg
<johnjaye>
yes the documentation has a single sentence at the end of the description about that. it doesn't refer to framerate specifically, but does mention resolution
<johnjaye>
actually the next line says different frame rates are acceptable which is not what i've encountered so far
<johnjaye>
maybe i need to change to variable framerate if it's not the default
<furq>
it depends on the container and the player and -fps_mode
<johnjaye>
i see. youtube here so basically mp4/aac/lib264
<furq>
youtube doesn't like vfr stuff at all
<furq>
if you mean this is for posting to youtube
<johnjaye>
no the other way. most of the clips i was working with were from youtube
<johnjaye>
but some had 24fps some 25fps
<johnjaye>
i'm guessing the uploader was european where 25fps is the standard?
<johnjaye>
anyway just thought i'd mention it, the documentation should strongly warn the user more i think. i've had to fix the framerate several times when that was the problem with concat
<johnjaye>
and resolution of course but it says to do that
<furq>
does the encoding stop or does it just not play back
<furq>
if encoding freezes then that sounds like a bug maybe
<johnjaye>
yes the latter
<johnjaye>
sorry if i wasn't clear
<johnjaye>
it encodes and in the final video it freezes at the boundary part of the vids with different framerates. it shouldn't be hard to reproduce since it happened to me so much. if you know some public domain video I can experiment on i could try to reproduce it with that. i've been using news clips so far
<johnjaye>
but yes the encoding works, doesn't flag an error, then the result is frozen
<johnjaye>
but it could be signalling an error and i just don't recognize it or understand what it means
