<redeeman>
not super related to ffmpeg itself, but does anyone know if its possible to use the denoising in libsvtav1 as part of the film grain synthesis feature, but not actually synthesize any film grain?

redeeman: if you aren't going to synthesize film grain, then one of the dedicated denoising filters will be better, like hqdn3d or nlmeans

<aaabbb>
redeeman: i don't think svtav1 can denoise without also generating film grain. the film-grain-denoise option (which is the denoiser) does nothing unless the film-grain option (which generates film grain) is turned on
<aaabbb>
in theory you might be able to pass a custom film grain synthesis table that doesn't have any grain at all if you're directly using the libsvtav1 api
<aaabbb>
idk how the fgs table works exactly

<kozaic>
Hello. I'm going to builing the ffmpeg for windows in ubuntu container. But I got error when ffmpeg's libass sections(ERROR: libass >= 0.11.0 not found using pkg-config). However, I'm built libass and it made /pkgconfig/libass.pc file. How to fix this error?
low-key has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<JEEB>
kozaic: I mean the actual error is in ffbuild/config.log
<JEEB>
the simplest reason is if you've not set your PKG_CONFIG_PATH or PKG_CONFIG_LIBDIR

Thanks for your reply. so, Set "PKG_CONFIG_PATH" to /usr/local/x86_64-w64-mingw32/lib/pkgconfig, right?
<JEEB>
if you're cross-compiling you usually want LIBDIR
<JEEB>
since LIBDIR overrides completely
<JEEB>
PATH appends to default search path
<kozaic>
I see. I will set LIBDIR.

Hello All, I'm pulling a series of timestamped.jpg files from a .mjpeg stream. What would be the best way to encode them, along with a mono WAV stream into a MP4 (or something that would compress fast without much quality loss). This is close to 3k video.
<UltimateCodeWarr>
Would like something playable in a web browser

redeeman: i hadn't heard of its denoiser being better. at least it is far less flexible. the only way it is better is when used with film grain synthesis
<aaabbb>
hqdn3d and nlmeans both have a number of parameters that allow it to be tailored to each situation but svtav1's denoiser does not. idk if svtav1's even does temporal denoising tbh. it's not as naive as x264's fast built-in denoiser, but i really doubt it is actually any better than a well-tuned hqdn3d or nlmeans
<Marth64>
hqdn3d rocks
robobub has joined #ffmpeg
<aaabbb>
it does. i actually prefer it to nlmeans even with speed issues aside but that might be because its parameters are more intuitive to tune for me ;)
