<brian|lfs> question whets the best way to do something'd like this with a package manager such as pkgmk
<brian|lfs> I've been thinking about it for a while and can't think of a logical solution expect to install each package separately which would be time consuming to write 32 packages.
<brian|lfs> and of course I asked in the wrong channel and wondered why no one answered
<SiFuh> Haha
<brian|lfs> the only way I found to do this is to do it manually then do it with pkgmk and overwrite everything
<brian|lfs> becuase it looks for stuff to be installed which if its not installed yet it would fail or do every package seperate
<SiFuh> aren't all these ports available already in CRUX?
<jaeger> I think in the long run it's a lot less work to make separate packages
<jaeger> Seems like a lot up front but it's easier to maintain and update parts
<SiFuh> Reminds me of when I did the SABnzbd port. Non-stop python dependencies, one after the other.
<brian|lfs> ah sabnzbd do you have that available
<SiFuh> Might have moved it to unmaintained. Let me check
<SiFuh> Yeah, moved to unmaintained.
<SiFuh> I ended up building a dedicated OpenBSD nfs server for Sonarr, sabnzdb, qbittorrent, cups and so on. So I didn't need to bother with the CRUX ports anymore
<brian|lfs> ah ok interesting
<brian|lfs> my friend that is in Malawi just called me
<SiFuh> You must have good hearing or he shouts very loudly

<brian|lfs> SiFuh, smartass
<SiFuh> :-P
<SiFuh> jaeger: OpenCL for AMD? I am not understanding this. Seems it is needed but not very many distros have it
<brian|lfs> odd saw it earlier somewhere
<brian|lfs> is it for Mesa or llvm or something I saw it with
<SiFuh> Seems only Redhat Enterpise, SuSE Enterprise and Ubuntu are supported
<SiFuh> The Ubuntu LTS enablement (also called HWE or Hardware Enablement) stacks provide newer kernel and X support for existing Ubuntu LTS releases
<brian|lfs> I don't think that distro supports it either
<SiFuh> Guess I am going to need to install Ubuntu on a USB stick so I can use OpenCL...

<brian|lfs> ok my human needs rest this is getting frustrating Pkgfiles massing I swore I made before.
<brian|lfs> I can only think I fat fingered and things got nuked no clue
<SiFuh> rm --list Trash bin is empty
<SiFuh> I installed that and under ~/.profile I introduced alias rm="trash " just in case I accidentally remove something I shouldn't have
<brian|lfs> I've heard of this never installed it I will give it a shot
<SiFuh> Since installing it a few years back, I have only accidentally removed something once and was happy that trash had caught it.
<brian|lfs> good thing to have even though in my case its probably just me losing my mind from building so many packages.
<brian|lfs> suppose you forgot about your trash for like 5 years lol
<SiFuh> Yep, I had. I was cursing for a bit then when I went to get a beer I suddenly remembered
<SiFuh> Then I ran back and forgot the beer
<brian|lfs> be bad if put trash on a custom distro and didn't tell anyone
<SiFuh> Sometimes you do get reminded when you try removing something and it says the trash bin is full
<brian|lfs> and had it as an alias
<brian|lfs> they would think they are deleting stuff and have no clue
<SiFuh> Untill the trash bin is full

<farkuhar> SiFuh: "set out to do one thing and then you end up having solver 500 other shitful things" <- That's why I keep postponing the investigation into why the Rockbox installation on my Sansa Clip lost its database and cannot reconstruct it. The internal disk is still navigable, but the removable SD card does not show up.
<farkuhar> This recent breakage reminds me of your sde versus sdf issue. I worry that if I start trying to debug the problem, I'll end up wasting hours of my time, attempting one fix after another.

<farkuhar> SiFuh: the phenomenon of computers sucking up our time hasn't changed, but in the passing decades we ourselves might be expected to become less impatient, not as anxious as the kids we once were (for whom a broken 8088 XT felt like the end of the world).
<SiFuh> Or the incredible speed of the 56k modem ;-)
<SiFuh> This Ubuntu has crystal clear perfect font... oooo
<farkuhar> Getting mellower with age is expected, unless we still invest a huge chunk of our egos in the machines we maintain. But that hobby (or profession) is usually a conscious choice, not something that we're born into as if living in a caste system.
<SiFuh> So crisp. Shame the rest of it is shit.
<SiFuh> I got a friend that always brings me stuff to fix or show him how it works. Sometimes it is pretty cool though. He is going to bring a CO2 laser where he needs me to change the tube.
<SiFuh> Bet it is going to be more fun than installing Ubuntu on a flash drive.
<farkuhar> Anyway, your experience that Debian 12 is slow to boot reminds me of a contrast I noticed between two of my CRUX machines. The one with a static IP is quick to show a login prompt, but the other computer lately seems to hang at least 5 seconds for /etc/rc.d/dhcpcd
<SiFuh> My network is set up so a specific MAC address gets a designated static IP
<farkuhar> I seem to recall a comment by ukky, regarding dhcpcd and how it is starting to evolve along the lines of systemd (more features, more bottlenecks to slow down the system boot).
<SiFuh> I always liked "If ain't broke, then don't try to fix it" :-P
