<Guest30> hi again, are you online ?
<Guest30> somebody to assist ?
<ukky> it depends on the issue...
<Guest30> xorg first time install i finaly managed to set up kernel but i get this issue
<Guest30> can i saw you the log ?
<ukky> yes, post the log
<Guest30> jaeger yestarday show me to do this :-)
lavaball has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<Guest30>   970.780] (EE) XKB: Couldn't open rules file /usr/share/X11/xkb/rules/evdev
<Guest30> [   970.780] (EE) XKB: Failed to load keymap. Loading default keymap instead.
<Guest30> [   970.780] (EE) XKB: Couldn't open rules file /usr/share/X11/xkb/rules/evdev
<Guest30> [   970.780] XKB: Failed to compile keymap
<ukky> yes, I see that. Are you running Xorg as root this time?
<Guest30> yes first time installation
<ukky> What is the output of this: df -h /
<Guest30> moment
<Guest30> plz
<Guest30> ./dev/root 151G 4.7G 138G 4%
<Guest30> ./dev/root 151G 4.7G 138G 4% /
<ukky> How do you start X? Via startx, via xinit, any other way?
<Guest30> ok i did it
<Guest30> i was missing xkeyboard-config and xorg-setxkbmap  prt-get deinst did not install them
<Guest30> i was starting startx
<Guest30> its the first time i am running crux
<Guest30> lets try on openbox :)
<Guest30> server terinated successfully xinit: connection to X server lostresent on the serverOpenbox was compiled without image loading support
<Guest30> let me compile a dwm
<farkuhar> Guest30: you're witnessing the effect of CRUX's focus on minimalism. If a port can be configured to run without some dependency, the maintainers usually list that dependency as "Optional", leaving it up to the users to decide what they really want on their system. As you noted, xorg-setxkbmap was not getting installed even by `prt-get depinst xorg`.
<Guest30> haha
<Guest30> thats not a problem ...
<Guest30> its ok
<Guest30> i thought something was wrong with the kernel configuration.
<farkuhar> Prior to 2023-07-22 you would not have run into issues with a missing xkeyboard-config; it used to be part of the dependency chain for libxkbcommon.
<Guest30> maybe should go again
<farkuhar> It was to satisfy somebody's request for running qemu on a headless host, that's why they tweaked libxkbcommon to be more independent of Xorg.
<Guest30> look,,, i was few years with arch and left, debian with some tweaks its much better. but again binaries and recommended packages
<Guest30> crux as i see it looks promising
<Guest30> but,,, a new user has the headache of building the kernel.... at least basic stuff as running first time x should be with dependancies
<Guest30> since you dont know if its a kernel problem or a distribution problem
<farkuhar> Guest30: I'm glad you found your way here to get some real-time help. CRUX does have a steeper learning curve, but it's well worth the effort.
<Guest30> I am happy too, i thiink i will stick
<cruxbot> [opt.git/3.7]: thunderbird-bin: updated to version 115.2.3
<Guest30> i3 installation dependancy xkbcommon-x11 found : NO
<Guest30> libxkbcommon is installed
<Guest30> man you have issues
<Guest30> at the end full wayland / sway ... foot terinal rocks
<cruxbot> [contrib.git/3.7]: python3-zipp: updated to version 3.17.0
<cruxbot> [contrib.git/3.7]: python3-rpds-py: updated to version 0.10.3
<cruxbot> [contrib.git/3.7]: python3-jsonschema: updated to version 4.19.1
<cruxbot> [contrib.git/3.7]: gtksourceview: updated to version 5.10.0
<cruxbot> [contrib.git/3.7]: containerd: updated to version 1.7.6
<cruxbot> [contrib.git/3.7]: [notify] bind: updated to version 9.18.19
<jaeger> if you rebuild libxkbcommon after installing xkeyboard-config it should be able to pick that up
<Guest30> ok, thank you jager
<jaeger> No problem. Just an addition to what farkuhar said
<Guest30> jaeger x starts but a get a black screen
<Guest30> do i need to create a file in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/ for_monitor ?
<jaeger> I think it's rarely needed now outside of libinput config, maybe. On the black screen can you right click and get a menu or is it truly nothing?
<serpente> have you set .xinitrc?
<Guest30> yes
<Guest30> something wrong with the monitor setings in xorg
<serpente> no mouse cursor? nothing?
<Guest30> still did not log to x to have mouse
<Guest30> did not check
<Guest30> moment
<Guest30> it works
<Guest30> hahah
<Guest30> the mouse does not work
<Guest30> and the keyboard
<Guest30> slowly slowly
<jaeger> Laptops can be a bit tougher to get working in those respects. My laptop's touchpad needed a few extra kernel configs before it worked. I tested using an external mouse in that case and the external one worked fine
<Guest30> I agree jaeger  and i will try.
<Guest30> the point is that today i dont have the mess of yesterday
<Guest30> i fix the kernel.
<Guest30> somehow.
<jaeger> I wonder if this is the same xkeyboard-config and libxkbcommon thing
<Guest30> no,,, i had to select many things in kernel configuration
<jaeger> I meant in addition
<jaeger> Either way, progress
<Guest30> ooo yess
<ukky> Guest30: You have 6 screens in your Xorg config. Have you added/created that config manually?
<Guest30> no automatic
<Guest30> screen works fine now
<Guest30> resolution everything
<Guest30> keyboard and mouse dont work
<Guest30> lol
<serpente> have you tried setting a mouse cursor theme? did you installed any icon theme?
<Guest30> no vanilla
<Guest30> i have the mouse pointer on opening
<serpente> i think you might need at least the hicolor theme installed
<Guest30> but does not work
<Guest30> this with the screens maybe is the hybrid gpu setting in the kernel
<jaeger> have you got a usb mouse handy to test?
<Guest30> yes moment
<ukky> Guest30: what does this say: ls -al /usr/share/X11/xkb/rules/evdev
<Guest30> nope does not work external mouse
<Guest30> -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 33414 Sep 21 21:27 /usr/share/X11/xkb/rules/evdev
<jaeger> Does the mouse show up in lsusb output?
<jaeger> and/or the touchpad
<Guest30> yes usb optical mouse
<jaeger> Do you have /dev/input/mice or /dev/input/mouse*?
<Guest30> where to see that ?
<jaeger> ls /dev/input
<Guest30> i have both
<jaeger> ok, try this: cat /dev/input/mice
<jaeger> And then move the mouse
<Guest30> mice & mouse0
<Guest30> and 18 event files, maybe i need to add something at the kernel ?
<ukky> Guest30: What does this say: ls -ald /tmp
<Guest30> drwxrwxrwt 5 root root 100 Sep 21 23:27 /tmp
<Guest30> the log trying to open openbox
<ukky> You have changed something. Now you don't have 6 screens, and there is no error about xkeyboard-config
<Guest30> i deleted the xorg.conf
<Guest30> maybe if i run it with dbus run session
<Guest30> nope
<ukky> Do you have these installed: prt-get isinst xorg-xf86-input-evdev xorg-xf86-input-libinput
<Guest30> i have the first
<Guest30> lets install the seconds
<Guest30> lets install the second
<ukky> 18 /dev/input/event<NNN> is a normal situation.
<Guest30> now its ok man!!!!
<ukky> libinput?
<Guest30> xorg-xf86-input-libinput
<ukky> great
<ukky> Please post latest Xorg.log
<Guest30> first i i just loged in to dwm
<Guest30> u know its simple bat work
<Guest30> xterm works
<Guest30> firefox no... i deal with it later
<Guest30> you need the log
<Guest30> moment
<ukky> beware that you run everything as root...
<Guest30> now i need to clean all this mess i even installed wayland and sway
<ukky> This log is much better
<Guest30> any recommendations ukky ?
<ukky> At least your input devices are detected and Xorg input drivers are loaded
<ukky> I do not use wayland/sway, so I'm not a help in this area.
<Guest30> i dont mind if i mess with the system, my first priority is to get a good kernel config file for this laptop
<Guest30> i started yesterday and was my first time compiling a kernel, last night i could not even load the DRI

<Guest56> server disconected me
<ukky> There are many subjects that require mastering before you make your system working _your_ way
<Guest56> ukky i was 2 years with wayland sway on a debian with sysvinit
<ukky> never tried wayland. X server is all I need as graphics environment.
Guest30 has quit [Ping timeout: 245 seconds]
<Guest56> the way i see it wayland wlroots is whats systemd is with init
<Guest56> ok clean api to build on top, clean api is i3wm with xcb, but i like xlib with dwm faster.
<Guest56> exactly what you need
<ukky> Then I will never use it. I even don't use udev/eudev on my CRUX setup.
<Guest56> lucky you
<Guest56> one question, since i was looking the db with the ports, how come they did not add iwd ?
<ukky> cannot answer that.
<ukky> will be back in a few hours...
<Guest56> ok have a good one
Guest56 is now known as Guest30
<serpente> iwd is on opt repo
<Guest30> thx
<Guest30> firefox XPCOMGlueload error
