Just found out that kernel boot parameter 'rootflags=noatime' with ext2/3/4 FS will crash kernel boot. Mounting root in initramfs hides this issue.

r0ni: as far as filesystem clutter goes, /usr/etc is pretty mild compared to /usr/binglib-compile-schemas. The latter sounds like a botched transcription of something Jane Austen might have written to herself while composing Pride and Prejudice.
