<r0ni>
github been having a bunch of issues for past for hours for me
<r0ni>
things literally just "not there"
<remiliascarlet>
Github always gives issues when browsing over Tor as of late.
<r0ni>
also hi remiliascarlet, i recognize your nick from matrix slackware channel
<remiliascarlet>
I think you got the wrong guy, I don't even have Matrix.
<r0ni>
over there i'm "jloco" i think
<r0ni>
oh wow welp
<r0ni>
i'll take it that name must be some popular underground thing i'm too old to know about
<remiliascarlet>
Remilia Scarlet is a very popular Touhou character, so you can expect a lot of people to be using this same name.
<r0ni>
ahh yep, exactly, i've never gotten into any of the culture of jpn media outside of vidya gamez
<remiliascarlet>
Touhou Project is a video game series.
<remiliascarlet>
Albeit an indie one.
<r0ni>
i've heard of the title at least, had no idea there was a character in said universe though. I'm more of the pacman generation lol
<r0ni>
ok, this boomer gonna go back to his VM induced madness
<remiliascarlet>
Yeah, that's a very long time ago. Touhou has been around since 1998, the first 5 games were released for DOS, and the first Windows version in 2002, and each game introduces about new 6 characters.
<remiliascarlet>
Then it became a fad on the Japanese internet that never faded away, and in more recent years it became a worldwide fad.
<r0ni>
i recall maybe a title on ps1 but i always assumed it was of the fighting genre
<remiliascarlet>
There are lots of fan games out there. As long as you create your own art and music (remixes are OK), the developer lets you do with the franchise whatever you want.
<r0ni>
oh wow thats an interesting concept
<r0ni>
in the days of DMCA takedowns thats a refreshing idea of a dev

core 2 duo, it might be a sad experience

<remiliascarlet>
Jokes on you, but my laptop runs CRUX, and it's a Core 2 Duo.
<remiliascarlet>
Works perfectly fine.
<r0ni>
oh i'm sure it'll be fine for my purposes at least
<r0ni>
it's gonna work hard with testing "meta-port" building for me once i get it going
<remiliascarlet>
I'd wish I had a stronger CPU for compiling, but then I'll need to give up on Libreboot.
<r0ni>
i have a i5 desktop sitting here but i'm not sure whats on the ssd that i should backup and i don't even want to power it up and begin that quest
<r0ni>
ok its been over 5 mins and the installer hasn't booted.... maybe its not meant for this
<remiliascarlet>
Did you hold the "C" key on your keyboard while powering it on?
<remiliascarlet>
It has been a couple years when I last installed a Linux distro on a Mac.
<r0ni>
on this model it's "alt" but grub comes up but the kernel don't boot... likely just not configured for it
<remiliascarlet>
I think CRUX comes with Syslinux by default, not Grub.
<remiliascarlet>
You'll need to press enter to continue.
<r0ni>
3.7 has grub, at least the updated.iso does
<remiliascarlet>
Just like on OpenBSD.
<r0ni>
i'll just installed thru a chroot.... easier lol
<remiliascarlet>
Oh, I got mine from the official CRUX website. From the Khazaghstani server, because that one, while still very far away, is the closest by server to me.
<r0ni>
this one is jaeger's updated iso from crux.ninja site
<r0ni>
trying to save some compile time ;)
<remiliascarlet>
The Kazakhstan server is even the only official mirror that's hosted on the same continent as I am lol.
<remiliascarlet>
(Continent in the geopolitical and cultural sense, not seperation by ocean sense.)
<r0ni>
oh goodness, that prob makes downloads precious when they work great
<remiliascarlet>
High speed internet is very common to have here, so it's not that much of an issue.
<r0ni>
high speed across the world is actually what it means, what it means in USA is $$$$ and not high speed
<SiFuh>
r0ni: Australia is worse ;-)
<SiFuh>
Unlimited internet is actually very rare to find in Australia.
<r0ni>
but australia has the best upload speed while download is slow
<SiFuh>
And what you pay for, you don't get
<SiFuh>
r0ni: hell no
<r0ni>
(that's a very bad upside down joke)
<SiFuh>
In KG I got 20mbps up and down. Exactly. In Australia I buy 20mbps and it will really be 5mbps down and 1 mbps up
<r0ni>
sounds like my gigabit which is really less than half that
<SiFuh>
In Malaysia I pay for 300mbps and I get 321mbps ;-)
<SiFuh>
And it is ulimited
<SiFuh>
I have lived and worked in 13 countries and most are 3rd world and I still complain how bad and expensive Australia's interent is.
<r0ni>
i've bought things from AUS and shipping consistantly costs more than the items
<SiFuh>
Yes
<r0ni>
so I can imagine just everything there is priced accordingly
<SiFuh>
I have that issue today since most of my 4WD parts are from Australia (Some of the best in the world) but the shipping is disgusting and slow.
<SiFuh>
I was pissed off that it was more expensive to post to Malaysia with Australia Post (Slow as molasses in the arctic) than DHL! Which can get the item here in less than 7 days.
<SiFuh>
Worse still. The idiot government learned that people were buying from overseas on ebay with paypal and it was taking a huge chunk of money out of the government's hands. So they introduced GST on Paypal transactions. So now we are paying GST for imported items instead of local items.
<r0ni>
yep i've heard nothing but horror stories about aus post
<SiFuh>
I was watching a video about 6 years ago where they had a group of business experts discussing business around the world. One question was asked which country is the best to open a business in. Someone mentioned Australia and all the business guys were shouting "No way. That is the worst place".

<remiliascarlet>
r0ni: We technically have only 2 providers, or 3 if you count the fact that 1 of them is split between a western branch and eastern branch, the rest are all resellers, and nobody can actually sign up for the big 2. Speeds differ from reseller to reseller, but prices are pretty much the same. You'd pay 4,400 yen a month at company A for 60 Mbps, or 4,400 yen a month at company B for 10 Gbps.
<remiliascarlet>
SiFuh: Somebody I used to know who's from Australia went to Ethiopia for a week, and has since redefined what he considered "worst internet speeds".
<remiliascarlet>
Best country to open a business in: none, just operate as an individual. No matter what country you open your business in, you will be sucking the national government's dick equally hard.
<SiFuh>
remiliascarlet: :-P
