<farkuhar>
ichi: did you try to install using `prt-get install i3` or `prt-get depinst i3`? The latter command tries to satisfy all dependencies, the first command tries to build i3 without bothering to check on the presence of its dependencies.

hi guys, is CRUX going to do something about la files in /usr/lib for the upcoming release (similarly to what Slackware did couple of years ago), or we just continue as before and experience occasional build breaks after updates?
<SiFuh>
ppetrov^: In CRUX la doesn't exist. It is the ports that have the issue and it depends on the port maintainers
<ppetrov^>
really? none of the ports in core, xorg and opt install la files?
<SiFuh>
Not that I am aware of and if so they'd be old ports
<SiFuh>
But right now there is a huge clean up being done
<SiFuh>
So from what i have seen, every port in those repos is being checked
<ppetrov^>
ok, that's what i wanted to know
<ppetrov^>
like, freetype had la files that after a certain update were not shipped anymore and i really pulled my hair with broken stuff
<SiFuh>
The easiest way is to just remove them all
<SiFuh>
But that is agressive since some ports require them like VLC as plugins. Oh, which reminds me. I am pretty sure I removed the la files in VLC as well
<ppetrov^>
ok, i had a talk on ##slackbuilds, and they explained that la files found in subfolders should not be removed
<SiFuh>
Yeah I did, all *.so files now
<ppetrov^>
and this is what Patrick Volkerding wrote:
<ppetrov^>
The .la files that are outside of
<ppetrov^>
often used by the lt_dlopen() function to load plugins and removing those
<ppetrov^>
the LD_LIBRARY_PATH were not removed (and shouldn't be) - those ones are
<ppetrov^>
ones can break things.
<ppetrov^>
so, only the ones in /usr/lib
<ppetrov^>
stuff like /usr/lib/foo/foo.la stays
<SiFuh>
You know Slackware is still outdated?
<SiFuh>
Yes like the plugins on VLC
<ppetrov^>
are you trying to annoy me? :)
<SiFuh>
But we no longer use those plugins so they can be removed
<SiFuh>
Hahaha no
<SiFuh>
I actually agree with him to an extent
<ppetrov^>
to be honest, i was quite fine with Slackware's pace in the past
<ppetrov^>
but the 5 years wait was too much
<SiFuh>
Ports were still updated
<SiFuh>
And you can change the kernel and the base system packages
<SiFuh>
I used Slackware as a gaming machine, then migrated to the main driver for a short time. I liked it but the package system was messy.
<SiFuh>
Alien Bob's stuff was great though. I admired his work
<ppetrov^>
many do
<ppetrov^>
the package system is,... well,... _elegant_, however for me it hides a lot about the relations between packages
<SiFuh>
Yep and yep
<SiFuh>
Sorry was setting up the distiller. Will wake up early and do a run for about 14 to 16 hours
<SiFuh>
Been using the 20 Litre for a few days, due to available time. Will run the 30 litre tomorrow. No time to run the 50 litre.

an important contributor to Slackware Linux

His name is Eric Hameleers, from the Netherlands
<ppetrov^>
maybe 'contributor' is an understatement, he's member of the core team
