<farkuhar> SiFuh_: you show remarkable restraint by not chiming in with information about OpenBSD's default partitioning scheme, when brian|lfs asks in #crux about /usr as a distinct mountpoint, separate from /.
<SiFuh_> farkuhar: Because no one cares so I was lazy to type
<farkuhar> I'm surprised to see that stenur still cares enough to file an issue on my forked prt-get repo: https://git.crux.nu/farkuhar/prt-get/issues/1
<SiFuh_> farkuhar: Well the old way was always superior but lazy retards come in and think they know better.
<farkuhar> SiFuh_: It gets confusing when you apply "lazy" to yourself, and then immediately follow up with an accusation that others are lazy (and retarded) too.
<SiFuh_> Lazy to type is not the same as being too lazy to partition your drives.
<farkuhar> Oh, but the OpenBSD installer has the option to auto-partition your drives. If something similar were written for the CRUX installer, then laziness wouldn't be a factor.
<SiFuh_> But most us don't use auto-partition anyway.
<farkuhar> Or maybe you meant that the CRUX core maintainers can't be bothered to make a distinction between binaries needed before /usr is mounted, and binaries that can wait until /usr is mounted. They just use the default installation paths defined in the upstream sources, and don't bother to change anything to make a separate /usr partition more workable.
<SiFuh_> 1) If a filesystem becomes corrupt that is not root. Then you still have a working system. 2) Easy to backup important partitions as opposed to the entire system. 3) You keep the userbase out of the core base. 4) You can mount partitions read only (/usr, /usr/local, /usr/X11R6)..
<SiFuh_> farkuhar: Not just CRUX. The entire lazy retarded community of developers following the larger corporate pushed distros decided to follow like little slaves as they are.
<SiFuh_> Even that link remiliascarlet posted about Linus having the Russian dev team removed from the Linux Kernel is not only petty and childish, but they just follow orders, like good little slaves.
<SiFuh_> Average Joe (2024) <-- Check this movie out if you want to learn why standing up to principals is far greater than following blindly and bending over to the corporate, cultist, political dick going into your arse
<SiFuh_> Good movie too
<ukky> systemd people have their reasoning for /usr being part of root: https://freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/systemd/separate-usr-is-broken/
<SiFuh_> ukky: yeah well they need big brass balls
<SiFuh_> Or at-the-least write software that actually works
<ukky> even Gentoo's default profile is to move all binaries into /usr/bin. /bin /sbin, and /usr/sbin are all now symlinks to /usr/bin
<ukky> I was going to remove Crux from my system at work and intall Gentoo, but after seeing the path Genntoo is heading, I left Crux alone.
<farkuhar> I'm surprised they list PulseAudio among the programs that break with a separate /usr. I thought even upstream devs were discouraging a system-wide PulseAudio daemon, in favor of a per-user process started at login.
<ukky> Many people run X as root, so maybe many people run PulseAudio as root too?
<SiFuh_> A person is smart. People are dumb, panicky dangerous animals
<ukky> This does feel like a requirement to name every Linux-based distro a GNU/Linux: https://www.gnu.org/gnu/gnu-linux-faq.html
<farkuhar> Too bad uwumeowmeownyaa isn't here to feel vindicated.
<SiFuh_> ukky: I am not calling my truck a "Landcruiser II 1990 70 Series, Petrol/Wanda Tyres/Bosch Starter/Toyota 1JZ/Tough Dog Coils/Waldex Suspension/STC Pandhard Rods/etc ....."
<ukky> For some reason, after reading that FAQ I've got an idea to remove every GNU component from a system completely. glibc, gcc, coreutils, etc.
<SiFuh_> Haha
<ukky> SiFuh_: No need to convince me that GNU/Linux is not a proper name.
<SiFuh_> But I reinforced it ;-)
<ukky> yes you did.
<ukky> Can I run some glibc-based bloatware on *BSD, like using flatpack or something?
<SiFuh_> OpenBSD, doubt it. Other BSDs.. no idea.
<ukky> SiFuh_: I am a representative of Mobil1. You missed a Mobil1 oil brand in the name of your truck.
<ukky> NetBSD might be able to emulate Linux environment: https://www.netbsd.org/docs/guide/en/chap-linux.html
<SiFuh_> ukky: There is no Mobil1 in my truck
<SiFuh_> ukky: That article is binding GNU with Linux. Not with a distro name.
<ukky> SiFuh_: Yes. According to the article, saying Linux without mentioning GNU is incorrect, unless you just mentioning kernel.
<SiFuh_> ukky: I wan't find that guy, print out the article and ram it so far down their throat and slap them silly.
<SiFuh_> Oh wait, that is Richard Stallman, the guy who wants credit for everything even as far as putting GNU in front of Linux even though it runs on Linux.
<ukky> SiFuh_: You see, I had similar, but less violent reaction.
<SiFuh_> I haven't found him yet. So I have had a chance to be violent.
<SiFuh_> haven't*
<ukky> grub bootloader adds prefix GNU/ to any Linux distro in /etc/grub.d/10_linux script
<SiFuh_> I don't like grub
<SiFuh_> I don't see why I need an OS to boot an OS
<ukky> SiFuh_: I switched to syslinux
<SiFuh_> SYSLINUX is cool.
<SiFuh_> If you have enough memory and a big enough boot partition you can configure SYSLINUX to boot the CRUX ISO from /boot
<SiFuh_> On the Beelink. I have the rootfs tarball boot from CRUX as well
<SiFuh_> Oh wait, I haven't anymore. I just checked
<SiFuh_> I turned it into a dero cryptcoin miner
<SiFuh_> It's made for me $2 AUD in 230 days hahaha
<ukky> Loading ISO from HDD is nice option when you do not want to bother with OS files.
<SiFuh_> ukky: You can see how UBCD does it.
<SiFuh_> I learned a lot about SYSLINUX and its tricks from that CD
<ukky> UBCD seems a nice tool set
<SiFuh_> Before OpenBSD had the upgrade option. You could download the new image or you can cheat and download the rbsd kernel and boot into rescue mode. And as long as you had internet you could upgrade the system that way.

<farkuhar> SiFuh_: Maybe RMS hasn't visited Malaysia yet, but he did visit my area, and I got his autograph when I ran into him downtown. https://f.uguu.se/NDCqmCmr.jpg
<farkuhar> At the time (February 2007) I didn't have any reason for violence against him; my reaction to https://www.gnu.org/gnu/gnu-linux-faq.html was just "meh, let the old man rant."
