<Armbian-Discord> <Jason123> what does it mean when it says
<Armbian-Discord> <Jason123> No end-user support: untested automated build
<Armbian-Discord> <Jason123> i know what it says but what does it mean as a user
<Armbian-Discord> <SaltwaterRook> Anyone able to help an inept user? I'm struggling here trying to get my Orange Pi 4 to cooperate
<yang2_> Jason I think it means, you are on your own regarding support
<yang2_> Jason as some things might still not work
<yang2_> Most does, but some don't and there isn't support for that, because someone has to code it
<yang2_> SaltwaterRook were you able to boot the device?
darkgeek1 has joined #armbian
<jason123santaoni> yang2_ yeah I know but its on the Renegade and its a supported platform I don't understand what would have caused the message
darkgeekyang has quit [Ping timeout: 246 seconds]
<yang2_> Jason123 jason123santaoni if you get a message like this, it's not a fault , and nothing to worry about, it's a default MOTD message https://paste.debian.net/plain/1272139

<archetech> its Sat in the D
<Armbian-Discord> <Jason123> yeah but this is a sable platform and not a work in progress device
<archetech> Desktop: KDE Plasma v: 5.27.0 Distro: Linux From Scratch Type: ARM System: Radxa ROCK 5B
<yang2_> jason123santaoni: which SBC ?
<jason123santaoni> Renegade
<archetech> wheres my dang 6.x 3588 kernel man
<archetech> Renegade is a rk3288
darkgeek1 has quit [Ping timeout: 260 seconds]
<archetech> old chit
<yang2_> jason123santaoni: I dunno, I thought that all SBC's have this default message in MOTD
<jason123santaoni> your device is an rk3588 still a work in progress platform
<yang2_> ok
<archetech> ha new is better than old
<jason123santaoni> hmm i get the same thing on my radxa zero
<jason123santaoni> been running the image for months on the zero and never had the message come up
<yang2_> jason123santaoni: it's likely a MOTD that comes with the new upgrade
<archetech> just a device family message ignore it
arch3r has quit [Quit: bye]
<yang2_> you can ignore it
<jason123santaoni> yang2_ yeah might be though in the case of the rk3588 its still a work in progress device
<jason123santaoni> but does not mean its bad
<yang2_> I think I am getting this on a Banana PI aswell
<yang2_> which is an older device
arch3r has joined #armbian
<jason123santaoni> its weird
<jason123santaoni> archetech its an rk3328
<yang2_> jason123santaoni: as most things regarding open source, it means there is no support for end-users
<yang2_> you can contribute with code or your time or similar to make it better
<yang2_> but end user support can't be demanded
<jason123santaoni> yep i know though I never seen the message before
<archetech> 3328 3288 w/e its old
<archetech> but still works for some things like a slow nas
<jason123santaoni> right now I use a raspberry pi zero 2 for my stuff so it will be fine for my use
<archetech> get out
* archetech eagerly clicks the bait
<archetech> boo its just a stus page been there
<archetech> status*

<Armbian-Discord> <rpardini> folks, any recommendations on a "embedded linux" book? it's for someone who knows small microcontrollers, even up to ESP32, but not Linux or device tree
<archetech> buy a sbc and suffer like the rest of us ;p

<archetech> I recommend the rock64 lol
<archetech> v2
<jason123santaoni> the rock64 is rk3328
<Armbian-Discord> <rpardini> yeah I know its... unusual... but I'm asking about a book.... literature
<Armbian-Discord> <rpardini> not boards
<archetech> rockchip wiki is lit
<archetech> nothing in a book can compare to hands on you outta know that
<Armbian-Discord> <rpardini> yeah yeah I'll go away, no worries

<schwar3kat> rpardini: Embedded Linux is orders of magnitude more complex than ESP32. I don't know of any Embedded Linux books that mention Armbian Build, but I have one that I have only cherry picked for device tree understanding. Mastering Embedded Linux Programming - Third Edition By Frank Vasquez , Chris Simmonds. It seems pretty comprehensive. Armbian build makes it so much easier.

<Herc> eg https://armbian.lv.auroradev.org/archive/ starts /w Armbian_20.02.3 while https://fi.mirror.armbian.de/archive/ starts /w 21.02.1
<Herc> at least for my odroidc2 ;)
<Armbian-Discord> <Tenkawa> @Lyric why do you need 5.5? Its not a LTS so there would've been no expectation it would be still used/supported
<Herc> Tenkawa, for example on my odroid c2 reboot only works until kernel 5.10.81, so I used armbian-config to select that one and froze it
<Armbian-Discord> <Tenkawa> Herc: I think that's been fixed
<Herc> hmm, sure? latest armbian for odroid c2 doesnt boot at all :(
<Armbian-Discord> <Tenkawa> Yeah this is an Armbian bug
<Armbian-Discord> <Tenkawa> its a u-boot problem
<Herc> I think so
<Armbian-Discord> <Tenkawa> I'm reading the bug report on it
<Herc> but not enough skills here to fix it myself
