I'm still digging around but I'm wondering if somebody might be able to point me in the direction for my Pinebook Pro of basically flashing the eMMC with the USB image that I was able to boot from

what's quite interesting about this process is that under load this USB key makes a high pitched whine during I/O. It's reminiscient of a spinning disk clicking about

<Björn> Installing Armbian has somehow gone backwards. (Or it is limited to Rock 64, usually I been installing other boards so not sure which it is).
<Armbian-Discord>
<Björn> So what happens is during setup I am prompted to choose locale. (Where I thought I was selecting Keyboard). But that causes the system UI to end up half Icelandic (which is sort of terrible). Icelandic keyboard is not selected and I am not sure how to make the UI English instead of half Icelandic without re-installing.
<Armbian-Discord>
<Björn> Secondly I was prompted to select timezone, but there is no longer any way to select Iceland there. Closest I could choose was in the UK, which is only correct half of the year.

björn, very old issue, 1st thing after initial boot is "sudo armbian-config" here. a) set kbd, locale, tz etc
<Herc>
armbian-config lets me select tz>atlantic>Reykjavic

<Herc>
I agree that it would be nice to be able to select local kbd on 1st boot
<Armbian-Discord>
<Björn> I tried fixing it with the armbian-config
<Armbian-Discord>
<Björn> but was not able to set the keyboard
<Armbian-Discord>
<Björn> it only had full locale setting. (as far as I could see)
<Armbian-Discord>
<Björn> As in did not offer to select Keyboard separately from the full locale setting,
<Herc>
maybe you should try a fresh install
<Armbian-Discord>
<Björn> Yea that is the plan when I get home later today 🙂
<Armbian-Discord>
<Björn> And start then from English I guess
* Herc
stays on EN too, but needs a DE kbd layout
<Herc>
btw, there will be new images available tomorrow, I'd use that instead
<Herc>
(or on a 2nd SD)

I assume the answer is no, but is there a way to escape/break from a serial console into a u-boot prompt? I have an Armbian box that seems to have crashed (possible kernel issue) but I am one province away from it this week so can't just go downstairs to reset it :)
popolon has quit [Read error: Connection reset by peer]
<PhotoJim>
cheakoirccloud: I tried BRK in minicom and it didn't work.
<PhotoJim>
I'll check that out.
<PhotoJim>
Yeah, I tried BRK. Didn't do anything.
<PhotoJim>
SO either it's not enabled by default on Armbian kernels, or the system is so buggered that it fails.
<PhotoJim>
oh, maybe it is working.
<PhotoJim>
damn, it did :)
<PhotoJim>
thanks!
<PhotoJim>
BRK u, BRK s, BRK b
<PhotoJim>
It did reboot but it's in a really weird state. Networking not working, login via serial console not working (can type 'root' and then it hangs)
<PhotoJim>
probably still needs a hard reset
<cheakoirccloud>
hmm, did you try passing `init=/bin/bash` as a kernel parameter?
<PhotoJim>
I'll try that. did a 'reset' at u-boot prompt, and trying a boot there.
<PhotoJim>
networking seems up this time though. responds to pings.
<cheakoirccloud>
It could be that the SSD wore out.
<PhotoJim>
I have it on eMMC. possible.
<PhotoJim>
Less likely, but not impossible.
<PhotoJim>
oh, SSD, parsed that as SD
<PhotoJim>
I should really change the terminal console speed from 1500000. the system I have the console cable connected to loses some bytes.
<cheakoirccloud>
`worms` from bsd games is a good test for that.
<PhotoJim>
I usually use 115200.
<PhotoJim>
I see no errors in the console that pertain to disk failure.
<PhotoJim>
but it seems to be hanged again.
<PhotoJim>
could be a bad disk. could be a marginal power supply.
<PhotoJim>
could be the hardware is in a weird state and needs to be hard reset.
<PhotoJim>
I'll leave this console open and see if the boot completes.
<PhotoJim>
thanks again for the help :)

<JonH> Thanks @IgorPec. I saw that option. That isn't really what I was looking for. I want the build process to run without touching the existing kernel tree. Essentially I want to be editing the kernel source in between builds and not have the build process touch those changes. It doesn't appear that option does that. It simply pauses the build allowing you to make changes then. Whatever changes were made in a prior build
<Armbian-Discord>
cycle were still lost unless I save them somewhere else.
<Armbian-Discord>
<JonH> And it turns out that CREATE_PATCHES is not yet supported in armbian-next, which is what I am using so I can do builds on WSL2 linux installs. Sigh....
