<MicroLinux (Salva)> Yeah, I never check if it had real vpu inside chromium
<Armbian-Discord>
<MicroLinux (Salva)> Without that wrapper will not work
<Armbian-Discord>
<MicroLinux (Salva)> Check if the decoders appears like here
<Armbian-Discord>
<MicroLinux (Salva)> But linux legscy kernel sucks on rk3399
<Armbian-Discord>
<MicroLinux (Salva)> So, it's preferably to use mainline without vpu

machining this part took less time than merging official support for teres-1 in armbian~ https://i.imgur.com/QMVxzYE.png
<Kreyren>
Jason123, I would advice against RK3399 as it has a spectre/meltdown vulnerabilities and orangepi5 with RK3588S is more economical if you can wait for delivery from aliexpress
<Kreyren>
though not mailined yet

<Jason123> the rk3588 is running an equivalent to the legacy kernel on rk3399

<MicroLinux (Salva)> Yes, sure, but you installed the wrapper or not? Without the wrapper then it will not work inside chromium.

<Jason123> Can the rk3399 even play videos on chromium smoothly?
<Armbian-Discord>
<Jason123> Even with the wrapper and the rapper is for legacy kernel I thought
<Armbian-Discord>
<MicroLinux (Salva)> No ideaa, never tested it properly
<Armbian-Discord>
<MicroLinux (Salva)> Since for all the rest, legacy sucks
<Armbian-Discord>
<Jason123> Legacy is only good for video playback with vpu
<Armbian-Discord>
<Jason123> Does the script even work on bullseye?
<lanefu>
so i have kernel 6.1 on my pinebook pro
<lanefu>
running cinamom on bookworm
<lanefu>
chromium plays 1080p on youtube smooooth
<Armbian-Discord>
<MicroLinux (Salva)> Sure, but if you are going to judge the vpu inside chromium, test it properly, check that the decoders are there, like on my video.
<Armbian-Discord>
<MicroLinux (Salva)> Yes but that's on soft decoding
<Armbian-Discord>
<MicroLinux (Salva)> He is asking for vpu
<Armbian-Discord>
<Jason123> The cpu gets hot
<lanefu>
there's some degree of elegance happening
<lanefu>
cuz it firefox it shits
<Armbian-Discord>
<Jason123> The pinebook pro needs a better headsink
<Armbian-Discord>
<MicroLinux (Salva)> No, it needs vpu
<Armbian-Discord>
<Jason123> both
<lanefu>
anyway i'm just gonna be the old guy that says "mainline works for me" on PBP and leave it at that
<Armbian-Discord>
<MicroLinux (Salva)> With vpu then you dont have that much heat
<Armbian-Discord>
<MicroLinux (Salva)> I never had thermal issues with it
<Armbian-Discord>
<MicroLinux (Salva)> With the pbp i mean
<Armbian-Discord>
<Jason123> Is there vpu on mainline? Outside of the browser
<Armbian-Discord>
<MicroLinux (Salva)> But if you are going to watch youtube.. then it will blow up
<Armbian-Discord>
<MicroLinux (Salva)> Kinda...
<lanefu>
does not blow up
<lanefu>
runs great
<lanefu>
and CPU wasn't 100%
<Armbian-Discord>
<MicroLinux (Salva)> Sure, deoending the quality, it will be gpod enough, I was just saying that long period videos on youtube will be problematic without vpu
<Armbian-Discord>
<MicroLinux (Salva)> Woth h264ify one can reduce a lot the cpu stress
<Armbian-Discord>
<Jason123> There is vpu working on allwinner on mainline right?
<Armbian-Discord>
<MicroLinux (Salva)> Allwinner
<Armbian-Discord>
<MicroLinux (Salva)> You should never think in alwinner
<Armbian-Discord>
<MicroLinux (Salva)> Also, there are vpu drivers for mainline for rockchip
<Armbian-Discord>
<MicroLinux (Salva)> But you need a lot of custom software/packages
<Armbian-Discord>
<MicroLinux (Salva)> To get it working properly
<Armbian-Discord>
<MicroLinux (Salva)> But again, it's mostly the same as rk3399
<Armbian-Discord>
<MicroLinux (Salva)> We have stateless decoders
<Armbian-Discord>
<MicroLinux (Salva)> The thing is making them work haha
<Armbian-Discord>
<MicroLinux (Salva)> Amazingfate did the work of collecting them and packaging the packages to get the blobs to work properly
<Armbian-Discord>
<MicroLinux (Salva)> We need more Amazingfates
<Armbian-Discord>
<MicroLinux (Salva)> For mainline
<Armbian-Discord>
<EfeCTN> we need to clone him
<Armbian-Discord>
<MicroLinux (Salva)> Sure, that would be a solution

<MicroLinux (Salva)> There is very cools stuff implemented on chromium by default on armbian. Zero copy rasterizer and out of process rasterization wasn't enabled by default before, very cool
<lanefu>
Yeah it works great!
