<Armbian-Discord> <TheChubu> hi! i made an sd with one of the amlogic s905 images from here https://github.com/armbian/community
<Armbian-Discord> <TheChubu> thing is im not sure how to use it. is there an accesory doc for each image about how to install it?

<Armbian-Discord> <IgorPec> "Armbian project maintainers does not answer any support questions regarding those builds!"
<archetech> what?! plug card and powerup
<Armbian-Discord> <IgorPec> those are automated build - we don't know if they work or not.

<Armbian-Discord> <TheChubu> hm ill read a bit more since that guide seems to be outdated. im missing this /boot folder
<schwar3kat> Hello all - I noticed an issue with a couple of the edge Linux Kernel 6.07 builds. When the file system is resized on first boot, there is a CRC error and the file system is mounted read only. Is this a known issue? I assume that it affects many more boards. Work around is reboot and the set up continues.

<schwar3kat> LKML seems to know about this so there is possibly a fix coming. https://lkml.org/lkml/2022/10/27/1515

<Armbian-Discord> <TheChubu> well it seems it works? at least i see the armbian logo and the loading circle thingy
<Armbian-Discord> <TheChubu> afaik if it fails i need to try with other dtb files until one works
<Armbian-Discord> <TheChubu> nvm, kernel panic
<Armbian-Discord> <IgorPec> try here https://forum.armbian.com/forum/97-unmaintained-csceoltvb-other/ tvboxes are wild west

<Armbian-Discord> <IgorPec> schwar3kat don't know about that issue
<Armbian-Discord> <TheChubu> i can imagine but with the massive drought of RPIs, they're very tempting. i got this tvbox basically with the same specs as a rpi3, for like... <20 USD. at a time where i literally cant get a RPi3 at all, and the competitor boards are 5 times the price.
<Armbian-Discord> <IgorPec> biggest cost is support
<Armbian-Discord> <TheChubu> i mean the thing has a rooted android so it isnt completely useless, but i'd prefer a cli env with debian
<Armbian-Discord> <IgorPec> what prevents you?
<Armbian-Discord> <TheChubu> what do you mean? prevents me from what?
<Armbian-Discord> <IgorPec> having cli environemnt with debian
<Armbian-Discord> <TheChubu> on the tvbox? i dont know if i can install debian on it
<Armbian-Discord> <TheChubu> that's why im trying with armbian
<Armbian-Discord> <IgorPec> support is not provided for what you want

<Armbian-Discord> <TheChubu> that post is from a year ago. the one made on monday says community support is beginning to be tested.
<Armbian-Discord> <IgorPec> where did you read you are getting support?

<Armbian-Discord> <IgorPec> its community thing
<Armbian-Discord> <IgorPec> support not provided by armbian staff
<Armbian-Discord> <TheChubu> ... i didnt ask for support by the armbian staff
<Armbian-Discord> <TheChubu> not sure what's your point
<Armbian-Discord> <IgorPec> this channel does not deal with tv boxes whatsoever
<Armbian-Discord> <IgorPec> never did, never will

<Armbian-Discord> <IgorPec> there you can find people that understands what you are asking
<Armbian-Discord> <TheChubu> i didnt ask anything. i already solved what i needed.
<Armbian-Discord> <TheChubu> i asked about install instructions and i found them right after
<Armbian-Discord> <TheChubu> that was it
<Armbian-Discord> <IgorPec> support is serving lazines most of the time
<Armbian-Discord> <TheChubu> ... what?
<Armbian-Discord> <IgorPec> i can easily lost 10 hours every day for helping people using google
<Armbian-Discord> <TheChubu> and you didnt lose anything on me because i found my answer right after
<Armbian-Discord> <TheChubu> i dont understand what was the problem
<Armbian-Discord> <TheChubu> want me to use the #armbian-amlogic channel exclusively? or is flat out mentioning tvboxes banned from this server?
<Armbian-Discord> <TheChubu> if it's banned, i dont see it in the rules

<KeeperoftheKeys> Hey, I hear a lot about the great work the armbian project does to get Debian on all kinds of SBCs but the one thing no-one talks about when talking about these other SBCs and armbian is kernel support so are all boards that armbian works with fully supported or are there still boards pinned to kernel versions that the vendor released binary blobs for/

<KeeperoftheKeys> which devices are currently considered well supported? I see lists of caveats on the armbian website for allwinner, freescale and rockchip
<CosmicDJ> KeeperoftheKeys: define "well supported"
<KeeperoftheKeys> support equal to a generic x86 system or rpi, that can have new kernels regardless of what the hardware vendor is doing

<Armbian-Discord> <TheChubu> i have a hopefully more generic question. what are these DTS files? looking at the kernel repo it seems like they're a bunch of files defining the hardware layout of the soc? https://github.com/torvalds/linux/tree/master/arch/arm64/boot/dts/amlogic
<ArmbianHelper> ^ linux/arch/arm64/boot/dts/amlogic at master · torvalds/linux · GitHub
<Armbian-Discord> <TheChubu> does this means that these definitions must match the device otherwise the kernel will fail to start? kinda interesting, i assume there are no mechanisms to detect the hardware present in the device, thus these pre defined files
