I used to have fail2ban rules for the redirect logs that would block consant xenial pollers... there was some massive deployment of xenial that seems like stuff would do apt update every few minutes on some client
<lanefu>
the OG armbian mirror was pushingn like a TB or 2 a day of just freaking apt indexes from them it was crazy

<Jason123> How is armbian on the orange pi zero? I am thinking about buying one since the bundle is very cheap and its a small board
<Armbian-Discord>
<Jason123> I do like small boards
<archetech>
lol we like small computers what can we say
<Armbian-Discord>
<Werner> @Jason123 If you mean the old OPi0 with H2+ SoC then it works great. WiFi is very unstable but that is the chip's fault. XR819 is crap. You can get an Orange Pi One for pretty much the same price w/o crap WiFi but HDMI and barrel plug connector for powering. Bit bigger board size though
<Armbian-Discord>
<Werner> If you do not need WiFi, go ahead for the Zero.

Igor is glueing together the handful of mainline patches for the board. Armbian mainline for most SBCs is aggregated proposed mainline patches and applying them to mainline.

As far as the device tree. Given those patches only enable like the SoC and gpio (no Ethernet, pcie,.etc). Probably wasn't too bad to make it extend a device tree. Can't speak for what he used and made tho. Just speculating 🤠

lanefu: what's wrong with Rock5b and USB-PD power?

<lanefu>
TLDR; Kernel driver is fundamentally flawed and supply voltage negotiation can do the wrong thing with many supplies.... Some work fine... But it will always be fiddly.

If you goto the Radxa debug party thread on radxa's site you can see plenty of conversation

<Tenkawa> If not lanefu whoever has one.. anyone tried out the finally production new Vmware Fusion version? It finally is starting to give Parallels some real performance competition I think finally
<Armbian-Discord>
<Jason123> The main thing is that I do need wifi. Though the orange pi zero might be small enough to put by my router for ethernet. The orange pi one is a similar price yeah though its bigger and I would prefer if it has wifi. Though it still might be small enough to put by my router. I have put a pi 4 by my router just fine.
<Armbian-Discord>
<Jason123> Though if I was to plug it into a monitor I would need wifi. What is the advantage of having barrel plug?
<lanefu>
Haven't tried VMware on m1. Just rancher desktop and UTM
<lanefu>
Utm
<lanefu>
Ahhhh UTM.app
<lanefu>
Barrel plug is for using a standard dumb 12v power supply instead of fucking with USB-PD power negotiation magic, which is unreliable on many rockchip implementations.
<lanefu>
Some smart companies put a seperate microcontroller on the board to manage the fusb302 usb-pd chip rather than let Linux attempt to manage it

<Werner> If you want reliable WiFi the OPi0 is a no-go. Probably any board will do better than XR819.
<Armbian-Discord>
<Werner> Barrel plug are designed for power transport while MicroUSB is designed for data. Powering boards with such - while often it works fine - is generally bad idea because the voltage drops across connection points and poor cable can add up and can lead to all sorts of weird behaviour. Therefore proper powering is absolutely mandatory to exclude all sorts of possible fault sources.

<Jason123> Hmm so the wifi works but its not reliable.
<Armbian-Discord>
<Jason123> As for the power there is a kit that comes with a power supply that should be fine. I know the raspberry pi zero and zero 2 and even the radxa zero is fine powered by the usb. The barrel night not be much better. Anyway the orange pi zero has no hdmi so I guess etherent I could use
