Is rockpro64 22.02 bullseye image currently broken? Hangs on booting kernel for me. A different distro works on the same board. Is it a kernel version issue? I see jammy has 5.16.x instead of 5.15.x for bullseye
<Armbian-Discord>
<IgorPec> No idea. It should work since images are out for a while and i dont recall anyone complaining. Use forum for report, instructions www.armbian.com/bugs but new releases are under testing. Find appropriate forum topic.
<Armbian-Discord>
<IgorPec> Ubuntu jammy has very little to do with kernel version we provide.
<Armbian-Discord>
<IgorPec> Anyhow. Check forums, maintainer if any can answer.

<einar> Is there any SBC that can boot from USB apart raspberry pi 3 and 4?
<lanefu>
Boards with spi flash for storing a bootloader can
<Armbian-Discord>
<IgorPec> i see some boards are there, but doesn't come with SPI (some older boards), but its possible to attach spi to pins and boot from it
<Armbian-Discord>
<IgorPec> also not all variants has spi on board.

<ManoftheSea> Many boards can boot from USB.
<Armbian-Discord>
<ManoftheSea> Well, at the very least I can confirm the espressobin can do so. I also highly suspect anything using petitboot can.
<Armbian-Discord>
<ManoftheSea> but that falls into the SPI flash category anyway
<Armbian-Discord>
<einar> @ManoftheSea thanks but when I did some research most of the boards only supported sd card and emmc. Does the libre renegade supports spi boot?
<Armbian-Discord>
<ManoftheSea> I can't answer about that one.
<Armbian-Discord>
<ManoftheSea> I think the distinction here is that the processor bootrom code doesn't check USB, but can check SPI flash for u-boot. If it can find u-boot, then u-boot knows how to check USB for the rest of booting up.

<Armbian-Discord>
<einar> would it be possible to make the boot partition on the sd card read only so the card does not fail after 2 years
<Armbian-Discord>
<ManoftheSea> unless you're writing new kernels, there shouldn't be a lot of wear on the boot partition. But the card probably shares the storage pool across all partitions.
