<nekomancer[m]>
again uboot on emmc broken after update (self build) on N2 :(
<IgorPec>
ay
<nekomancer[m]>
aww, I unstall current u-boot with edge kernel. void my head.
<nekomancer[m]>
and now it works! happy, happy, joy, joy
<nekomancer[m]>
glory to IgorPec !

Hi all, just curious, does anyone have a HoneyComb/ClearFox LX2 (= NXP LX2160A SoC)? There is a particular operating system setup I wish to have validated if it works on the LX2. Also I can buy an LX2 second hand if anyone has one to sell.
<Jmabsd>
It's a mini-ITX ARM64 with 16 cores, 18MB cache, supports 64GB RAM, and has fast PCIe and ethernet. Quite high performance apparently.
<Armbian-Discord>
<IgorPec> you need some patches on top of generic arm kernel. we don't provide plug and play images but you can make image easily
<Jmabsd>
IgorPec: Oh, interesting. What patches?
<Armbian-Discord>
<IgorPec> i know that they are needed, do some searching
<Armbian-Discord>
<IgorPec> this is common. we have fixes on top of kernel almost everywhere
<Armbian-Discord>
<IgorPec> just this device didn't find the way to us
<Armbian-Discord>
<IgorPec> at least last some of last commits i would guess
<Jmabsd>
IgorPec: oh dear, aha. Uh. So supposedly those commits for LX2160A support from SolidRun, have not made it into the upstream Linux kernel yet?
<Armbian-Discord>
<IgorPec> i assume. some never gets there
<Jmabsd>
:-/
<Armbian-Discord>
<IgorPec> but this device is almost compliant, most of what we deal with is far away

IgorPec: Cool. Okay so at #armbian , as for OpenBSD, on #armlinux kettenis confirmed that it basically works, however AMDGPU is broken and there are no ethernet drivers. USB3 does work.
<Armbian-Discord>
<IgorPec> yeah, something like that. i just wasn't up to date
<Jmabsd>
IgorPec: Do you have any guess about whether PCIe passthrough from KVM virtualizer host, works on this SoC?
<Armbian-Discord>
<IgorPec> sorry, can't tell.
<nekomancer[m]>
it's a hell. seems now impossible to use docker to build different images. because differerent targets requires different builder configuration.
<nekomancer[m]>
then `RELEASE` have to be defined before docker run
<Armbian-Discord>
<ManoftheSea> can't you pass those variables in at the command line?
<nekomancer[m]>
I can.
<nekomancer[m]>
but it not looks like a permanent solution
<Jmabsd>
nekomancer[m]: I suggest Docker is a relatively bad idea to start with. Just use something differnet.

<stipa>
Jmabsd is the stuff working with software the board manufacturer provide?
<stipa>
like chips
<stipa>
"What this means is that HoneyComb running our tianocore edk2 based firmware will boot and run on most Aarch64 operating systems out of the box. "
<stipa>
it boots, that's right
<stipa>
dicks, the year has passed and they did nothing
<stipa>
better stay away from a kind of support like that
<stipa>
no matter how board looks on paper if it can't work you can fuck yourself
<stipa>
it's like 750$ thrown away
<stipa>
there's always something fucky with boards that look too good on paper
<Armbian-Discord>
<ManoftheSea> but... that's all arm boards
<stipa>
ManoftheSea they are but the socs have different structure
<stipa>
it's not standardized, even AMD and intel need different hardware to work
<stipa>
it's how proprietary hardware works
<stipa>
if there was like one ARM manufacturer your idea would work
<Armbian-Discord>
<ManoftheSea> No, I mean... all arm boards look too good on paper. The RK3588 looks like it's as good as an i3 NUC for about 30% less. But then you're not going to have graphics unless you use the vendor's kernel tree...
<Armbian-Discord>
<ManoftheSea> also, "my idea"?
<stipa>
intel nuc with linux for x86_64 is a winner combo for sure
<stipa>
i bet everything works
<stipa>
the idea that ARM is something like intel PC or AMD based one
<stipa>
where you could slam whatever linux that is linux for arm on them and that it'll just work
<Armbian-Discord>
<ManoftheSea> No, I get that's an ideal, but has no vendor support
<Armbian-Discord>
<ManoftheSea> Or at least I'd be interested to hear who is doing the best, so that I can direct my purchase appropriately.
<Armbian-Discord>
<ManoftheSea> This makes me think Clearfog might be the best I've heard of.
<stipa>
idk, i see things brake regulary
<stipa>
odroid N2+ was a winner some time ago
<stipa>
i honestly don't own RPI, it could be a winner
<stipa>
RK3399 is also among popular ones
<stipa>
but not all boards based on it
<Armbian-Discord>
<ManoftheSea> yeah. I've got a helios64. But that company died.
<stipa>
since hardware around the soc isn't the same on al of the boards
<stipa>
yeah, that's sad
<stipa>
the NAS looks fancy
<stipa>
nekomancer[m]: had some PSU issues
<nekomancer[m]>
?
<stipa>
something with the fan on helios after power outage
* nekomancer[m]
have serial console issues about a month long: usb device not recognized as serial port. or recognizes, but fast fails.
schwarz_Kat has joined #armbian
<nekomancer[m]>
my helios works with fan as good as possible. silent, woa only on reboot.
<stipa>
ManoftheSea it all sux but it's much better than commercial stuff where you can't at least lower the speed of something or turn part of the system off, etc...
<stipa>
nothing works 100%
<stipa>
universe simply isn't perfect
<stipa>
if it was there would be nothing to do
<stipa>
ManoftheSea you have like few options, write drivers yourself or use the USB port and stick in it what you need
<nekomancer[m]>
stipa: your vent scrolls at 100% speed all the time?
<nekomancer[m]>
if yes — solution present on forum
<stipa>
no man, ManoftheSea has helios too
<stipa>
i don't
<stipa>
ManoftheSea even if the company died Armbian support for it's hardware is still going strong
<Armbian-Discord>
<ManoftheSea> Well... it doesn't have a maintainer or currently building images/kernels
<Armbian-Discord>
<ManoftheSea> Which reminds me to check if espressobin is getting built.
<Armbian-Discord>
<ManoftheSea> yeah, only next (5.16.18) and not current (5.15.32), which is probably because of the board file not asking for it.
<Armbian-Discord>
<ManoftheSea> hmm, no, it asks for current,edge

<IgorPec> i have boot Espressobin last week with this kernel, but it kept on crashing
<Armbian-Discord>
<IgorPec> i assume i would need to change u-boot as well?
<Armbian-Discord>
<ManoftheSea> Hmm. I was able to boot 5.15.31 on u-boot 2018.03-devel-18.12.3-gc9aa92c-armbian (Feb 20 2019 - 09:45:04 +0100) as well as 2022.01-armbian (Mar 27 2022 - 19:08:15 +0000)
<Armbian-Discord>
<ManoftheSea> well, it was 5.15.32 on the 2022.01 u-boot
<Armbian-Discord>
<ManoftheSea> But then, I have a v7
<Armbian-Discord>
<ManoftheSea> and yours is a 5?
<IgorPec>
werner: did you wrote an example how to generate a patch and add it to the build framework?
<Armbian-Discord>
<ManoftheSea> something like CREATE_PATCHES=yes?
<Armbian-Discord>
<ManoftheSea> I remember seeing that.
<Armbian-Discord>
<IgorPec> yes, but he made some article with steps
<Armbian-Discord>
<IgorPec> i think
<Armbian-Discord>
<IgorPec> then you have to move that patch to appropriate place and generate PR to build system
