Btw, MFD maintainer seems messed my patches that applied
<Stat_headcrabed>
He dropped AXP313a series, which my series based on(That series also marked as applied)
<Stat_headcrabed>
And put patch 1's reviewed-by to patch 2
<Stat_headcrabed>
wtf

Interesting that C908 is newer than C910 (and C920?)
<drewfustini>
I guess T-Head doesn't want ARM to be the only core IP vendor with confusing numbers :)
<drewfustini>
Anyways, that is exciting to see the may be RVV1.0 silicon this year
<drewfustini>
Maybe 2023 is shaping up to be the year of the RISC-V SoC :)

I'm putting all my effort in the direction of RISC-V this year

SoCs with T-Head cores, the Sophgo SoC, the Horsecreak SoC, StarFive JH7100 in full production... it's going to be a fun year I think
<Stat_headcrabed>
C908 is called 908, I think that might because that is a in-order core like 906
<Stat_headcrabed>
910 is out-of-order
<drewfustini>
I should say "StarFive JH7100 in full production". I am not sure any of the other ones will ever be full production but it should be enough to make a good number of dev boards (SiFive and Intel people told me their target is 10k)
<drewfustini>
ah, thanks for the explanation
<Stat_headcrabed>
JH8100 might also come this year
<Stat_headcrabed>
(maybe next year
<drewfustini>
Ah, with the StarFive core, right?
<Stat_headcrabed>
That Dubhe core seems like P550+vector?
<Stat_headcrabed>
same coremark/mhz as p550
<drewfustini>
I am not very familiar but the marketing I saw seemed to indict StarFive developed in house
<drewfustini>
but as for where the RTL originates, I suppose the is hard to know
<Stat_headcrabed>
Whatever, this year would be interesting
<drewfustini>
I am hoping that Sophgo is serious about production volume
<Stat_headcrabed>
However I could not afford that board's price :(
<drewfustini>
It's hard to know about the Alibaba T-Head produced SoCs. They are not traditionally an SoC vendor, and I'm not sure if they intend to do full volume production.
<drewfustini>
I hope they do
<drewfustini>
And I hope SiFive/Intel will do more than 10k units that they mentioned at the RISC-V summit
<Stat_headcrabed>
Actually T-Head also has SOC for mass production
<Stat_headcrabed>
but not risc-v
<drewfustini>
At the very least, it seems StarFive is doing full wafer volume production now
<drewfustini>
Ah, c-sky?
<Stat_headcrabed>
arm server chip
<drewfustini>
Ah, interesting, I suppose for Alibaba cloud infrastructure
<Stat_headcrabed>
Yep
<drewfustini>
I hope Alibaba T-Head will make a lot of the SoCs that Sipeed is teasing. It would be great if a they become easy to source
<Stat_headcrabed>
Those arm servers are able to rent from Aliyun
<Stat_headcrabed>

Ah interesting
<drewfustini>
so in a year or two, maybe one could rent a RISC-V server :)

TSMC n5 @3.2Ghz
<Tenkawa>
I wish Intel would do some(more if they are doing some) RISC-V stuff ... and in the new plant 10 miles from my house would be nice lol
<Stat_headcrabed>
Maybe, but I want rvv1.0 than0.71
<drewfustini>
Arizona?
<drewfustini>
I'm in Portland, Oregon, so there are Intel fabs in the area but I'm uncertain what they make at those
<Tenkawa>
drewfustini: Ohio
<drewfustini>
Ah, right, the big new facility
<Tenkawa>
yep
<Tenkawa>
I'm right down the road.. I "use" to live 2 miles from it... now I'm about 10
<drewfustini>
I did find a horse creek 1.5 hours away from portland so I would like to think that is the namesake :) https://goo.gl/maps/RxraAqjByL3riuRg6
<drewfustini>
Neat. I imagine there is a lot of construction happening?
<Tenkawa>
Indeed
<Tenkawa>
Wish this had been going on when my career had still been going... I'm doing this all hobby/volunteer now
<Tenkawa>
Having a lot of fun with it though as a hobby.

so... in which header is glibc going to declare __riscv_hwprobe()?

please nowhere... it's a crap interface that shouldn't leak out into generic userspace code
<courmisch>
they already leak __riscv_flush_cache
<courmisch>
and so far, there's no other way to get at the data from userspace
<courmisch>
if glibc won't expose it, people will just invoke it manually. In fact, they'll probably do that anyway
<jrtc27>
my point is not that glibc shouldn't give you an interface
<jrtc27>
it's that it should give you something less awful
<jrtc27>
which may internally map down onto that system call
<courmisch>
I wouldn't hold my breath for glibc to provide a better interface for a RISC-V-specific thing
<courmisch>
especially if nobody proposes a better alternative
