<zid> exactly?

<heat> just cba to do aoc
<heat> i have no interesting challenge i want to do
<zid> That's because you waste your time copying linux's homework all year
<heat> and it starts to get progressively harder so i'm not going to use it to learn rust
<zid> burn yourself out on doing anything productive like AoC
Starfoxxes has joined #osdev
<heat> im bz
<heat> i fucked myself over with git reset --hard yesterday
<heat> i lost a bunch of tcp stuff
<heat> :))))))))))))))
<zid> can you defrag it back into existence
<zid> I wrote out intel's latest roadmap: 2000 strained silicon, 2007 high-k dialectric, 2011 sandy bridge microarch introduces basically all modern micro-arch details, ??, 13900k burns itself
<zid> maybe 2023: Copies die-glue from AMD
<heat> no and i dont use zfs because that's for soyboys
<nikolar> kek
<zid> Did I miss anything?
<zid> avx-512 introduces "HPC only feature on select laptop, with huge clockspeed penalties" maybe?
<zid> roaring success that one, laptop only HPC
<Ermine> ?
<zid> avx-512 was only available on 10nm chips, and the only 10nm chips they released were laptop cpus because of horrendous yield issues
<nikolar> zid: also don't forget crappy heterogenous core stuff where they sell laptop chips with like 2p and 10e cores or something
<zid> That at least succeeded though, technically
<Ermine> i don't have avx512 on my laptop
<zid> it's just kind of lame that they had to
<zid> Ermine: good, because it makes no damn sense
<nikolar> i mean they didn't havet o
<nikolar> amd is doing just fine
<zid> I mean, "had to", in terms of, trying to make some random feature work that amd didn't already have, not "had to else the devil would eat them" had to
<nikolar> kek
<heat> i am a literal idiot please never allow me to use git again without adult supervision
<zid> kk
<nikolar> kek
<heat> i've had this shit unstaged for fucking MONTHS
<Ermine> ohshitgit.com
<heat> literally shat out 80 commits and merged them and this shit was still unstaged
<nikolar> have you heard of branches heat
<heat> no reflog buddy
<zid> git stash
<heat> OH
<heat> ... i wonder if there's a way to recover a git stash
<nikolar> loller
<zid> if it's in the stash, then the defrag thing will find it too
<nortti> stashes are refs, right?
<zid> are you sure you checked
<Ermine> y not reflog?
<heat> i did not check
<heat> you might have saved my bacon
<zid> That'll be £80, one for each commit
<heat> thank god it was never committed in the first place
<heat> 0 gbp poundz

<GeDaMo> Also, TIL ext3 isn't 2038 compliant
<zid> surely by 2038 my hdd will have died, SURELY
<zid> It's got 15 years of online time already
<Ermine> TIL British retail network
<GeDaMo> Asda used to be owned by Walmart
<Ermine> Did I just see future perfect tense???
<zid> I will have been using great tenses once I finish having written this sentence in the past.

<heat> GeDaMo yep that's an ext4 thing
<heat> fwiw i do believe you can manually convert an ext3 fs into ext4 relatively easily, particularly if your inodes are large enough
<heat> basically tune2fs your filesystem with ext4 featuren
<zid> cor get a load of the inodes on her
