<JakeSays>
hey under what conditions would one want to use render()?

JakeSays: Some parts with many faces navigate super slow in the display window under preview, but this is resolved if you use render() on those pieces.
<JakeSays>
ah ok
<InPhase>
There are also a few other cases where some things display poorly visually, and render() on that piece fixes it.
<JakeSays>
what's the downside to using it?

<InPhase>
It typically takes a lot longer to do render() than to not do it.
<InPhase>
Also it kills any color you put in there. :)

I like Kicad

teepee: yeah i just need to sit down and learn kicad properly, but i do take issue with their chosen ui framework.
<JakeSays>
i wonder how hard it would be to create a preview view with open cascade
Colt has joined #openscad
<teepee>
depends on the model, it it uses hull or minkowski, it goes to infinite effort ;-)
<teepee>
well, it probably would need to revert using normal mesh generation for those parts
<teepee>
would be a very interesting feature though, as it also would allow to export that to STEP then (I think)
<JakeSays>
i've seen a couple of apps that use OCCT. it renders beautifully

hi. How can I change the mouse sensitivity in the view?
ur5us_ has quit [Ping timeout: 265 seconds]
<teepee>
LeviHarris-Brown: no, currently that's only possible for 3d-mouse input
<LeviHarris-Brown>
oh that's disappointing. I find it far too sensitive to use with my trackpoint (and this laptop has no trackpad). Are there any plans to add it? And do you think it'd be a difficult job to add it?
<teepee>
there's not really a way to plan spare time of people, but it would certainly be a useful thing to have
<teepee>
especially as there's some sort of framework for that already. I don't know how difficult it is, probably not too much but integrating different code path always has some catches
<LeviHarris-Brown>
ahh ok, that's good to hear. And by are there any plans, I meant more so has any issue been opened related to it, has anyone commented saying they will look into it,, etc. I assume not?
<teepee>
I don't think so, but the wishlist is long
<teepee>
it might be mentioned in one of the "improve input devices" issues though
<LeviHarris-Brown>
I had a look around on GitHub, and a quick search of the forums with Google, and can't seem to find anything. I guess not many other people have any issue with the sensitivity
<teepee>
yeah, I guess the more common request is about button config
<Scopeuk>
LeviHarris-Brown a work arround would be to reduce the cursor speed in your operating system settings, this does have obvious limitations howver
<LeviHarris-Brown>
<Scopeuk> "Levi Harris-Browning a work..." <- I use Xorg and i3wm, so I'm sure there's probably some way to only adjust it for the openscad window
<teepee>
wtf: "For users on the Free plan, you will notice that your build timed out if it has taken more than 1 hour."
<teepee>
I mean, fair enough to limit free stuff, but doing the limitation witouth any notice and explain the error afterwards is a bit shitty communication
