<dnkl> why do the italics of _every_ monospace font bleed to the right? What part of "monospace" don't they get? 😔
<kode54> the solution to the font authors, just pad the character cells more
<kode54> somehow I imagined the caching renderer would support bleed in all directions regardless of the characters, Just™️ overflow rendering each glyph into a rectangle with full RGBA information, so they could be freely drawn into an output regardless of how they overlap
<kode54> warning: I know nothing
<kode54> I've also encountered software which renders huge and complex tilemap scenes using individual polyquads for each tile
<kode54> runs like crap on ARM because the app is .NET for x86

<dnkl> kode54: one problem is you have to remember to erase the cells that have been bled into

<ubq323> hello. what's a correct way to make my terminal black-on-white instead of white-on-black
<ubq323> i have tried swapping the foreground/background, regular0/regular7, and bright0/bright7 in foot.ini
<ubq323> but this doesn't work, it makes me get white on white for some reason
<ubq323> (it's possible i've typoed somewhere)
<ubq323> ok, i needed to exchange foreground and background, but not the numbered colours
<ubq323> thanks everyone

<rcf> dnkl: regarding an issue with fuzzel in #archlinux, is your intention strict compliance with the XDG spec, or would you ever expect something like /usr/share/icons/foo.svg to work
<dnkl> rcf: absolute icon paths should work
feinedsquirrel has joined #foot
<feinedsquirrel> I've just been on #archlinux verifying my setup. It seems that fuzzel doesn't show *.desktop Icon= files located in "$HOME/.icons/", though the spec says it should be included for backwards compatibility. It isn't a huge issue, as placing my icon in /usr/share/pixmaps/my_app.svg works properly with fuzzel, but it is something I noticed. I still need to look through the source code, but if it is an
<feinedsquirrel> easy change to include that directory, I may be able to work on a pull request over the next couple of days, if that change is something that would be accepted.

<WhyNotHugo> IMHO it makes sense for italic fonts to bleed. They don't have a rectangular box, they have a quadrilateral/parallelogram box
