<cc0>
dnkl: what would you think of a "standard" evnrionement variable "XDG_APP_ID" that is set by launchers like fuzzel for apps with Terminal=true to the StartupWMClass value, and that terminal emulators would be able to read to set the app id automatically?
<cc0>
would be set*

<dnkl>
cc0: don't like it. It would be yet either environment terminals and launchers would have to unset when starting up, to avoid having it trickle down to subprocesses where it could cause issues. And this is regardless of whether the terminal (or launcher) supports the variable or not.
<dnkl>

<cc0>
hmm
<cc0>
understandable
<cc0>
would you have an idea on how this use case could be achieved? (somehow setting the app id so that the terminal emulator window gets its nice icon, can be pinned to the dash, etc.)
<cc0>
by dynamically setting the app ID, are you suggesting an escape sequence for passing an app id?
<dnkl>
cc0: yes. That's the most terminal:y solution, at least...
