<Guest20>
I'm using sway, with foot as my terminal emulator and thunar as my file manager. My primary (and only) text editor is neovim. When trying to open a text file from thunar, I get and error "unable to find terminal required for application." in ~/.config/xfce4/helpers.rc, I have set TerminalEmulator=foot. How do I get it to open foot and neovim
<Guest20>
properly? It worked fine with xfce4-terminal

Guest20: guessing you'll have better luck asking in an xfce channel. But if I'm to guess, there's a hardcoded list of "valid" terminal emulators somewhere in the xfce sources. And foot is likely not on it.

<marshallishere>
hey
<marshallishere>
I was trying emacs and, when I tried to open in the terminal, i got this error
<marshallishere>
emacs: Terminal type foot-extra is not defined.
<marshallishere>
If that is not the actual type of terminal you have,
<marshallishere>
use the Bourne shell command 'TERM=...; export TERM' (C-shell:
<marshallishere>
'setenv TERM ...') to specify the correct type. It may be necessary
<marshallishere>
to do 'unset TERMINFO' (C-shell: 'unsetenv TERMINFO') as well.
<marshallishere>
when I start with TERM=foot it works
<dnkl>
marshallishere: if you want to use TERM=foot-extra, you also have to install that terminfo. It's usually in a package called foot-terminfo, but may be something else depending on distro
<marshallishere>
this package is already installed, it came with foot
<marshallishere>
as a dependency

marshallishere: which distro?
<marshallishere>
fedora 38
<marshallishere>
I used emacs flatpak
<ayushnix>
lol, emacs being inside flatpak probably isn't able to locate the foot-extra term info file
<dnkl>
that'd be my guess too
<ayushnix>
either give access to the foot-extra terminfo file by whitelisting it using flatpak or flatseal
<ayushnix>
or use a proper rpm package for emacs
<ayushnix>
assuming it exists on Fedora
<ayushnix>
which I'm beginning to doubt these days
<marshallishere>
it exists
<marshallishere>
and emacs flatpak can access the whole filesystem
<marshallishere>
filesystem=host permission is on by default
