does ffmpeg master use ZIMG=3.0.5? or where can i find the "contrib" versions (handbrake store their librarieis in contrib folder)
<JEEB>
FFmpeg does not have a contrib dependency system where it automatizes building of dependencies. the configure system just checks for the existence of the library with pkg-config (pkgconf nowadays providing that in anything recent enough) and that's it.
<JEEB>
if you're asking about BtbN's builds specifically, those are fully defined version-wise

If an -ss argument results in the wrong location because ffmpeg incorrectly calculates the duration of a VOB file, can we work around it somehow?
<Nintendo>
Using “ffprobe stream_tags=duration” reports the correct duration, by the way.
<Nintendo>
But that doesn't matter when running “ffmpeg -ss”.

<Nintendo>
I have worked around the issue. ffmpeg -i 'concat:VTS_01_1.VOB|VTS_01_2.VOB|VTS_01_3.VOB|VTS_01_4.VOB' -c:a copy -c:v copy concat.vob
zsw has joined #ffmpeg
<JEEB>
Nintendo: for seekable locations check `ffprobe -select_streams v -of json -show_packets -i INPUT` and then check which have the K flag
<JEEB>
also MPEG-PS and MPEG-TS I don't think have seeking incides

<iconoclast_hero>
is there cross talk between `ffmpeg -i x.m4a -acodec libopus x.opus` on core 1 and `ffmpeg -i y.m4a -acodec libopus y.opus` on core 2?
<iconoclast_hero>
i.e, any issues with running conversions of audio files with ffmpeg on multiple cores simultaneously?
<another|>
No. That would be a serious bug
<iconoclast_hero>
thanks.

i saw something that suggested that, and i was nonplussed

Hello. I'm attempting to convert files from Dolby Vision Profile 7 to Profile 8. For that purpose I'm using ffmpeg with dovitools with the following command:
<TramTaxi>
this unfortunately sometimes results in an error
<TramTaxi>
Application provided invalid, non monotonically increasing dts to muxer in stream 0:
<TramTaxi>
and the conversion will continue, but when I mux the result in the new file later with mkvmerge, the new video stream will have a different time sinc from the audio and it will be messed up
<TramTaxi>
that really depends on the source. Can you help me?

no idea what the defaults for aac are. But they're usually bad.
<BtbN>
At the very least specify your desired bitrate
<furq>
aac actually does have sensible defaults
<furq>
it even adjusts for channel layout

Hey all, I'm wanting the latest release on a raspberry pi os install and on the official ffmpeg website it links to linux builds on the download page that go to https://johnvansickle.com/ffmpeg/
<PanickedKernel>
But that site doesn't have builds for the latest release from april (7.0)
<PanickedKernel>
Is it normal for it to lag behind?
<furq>
not sure what's going on with relaxed's builds
<BtbN>
Just get master. There is pretty much no good reason to use an old version
<furq>
also yeah do that
kushal__ has joined #ffmpeg
<PanickedKernel>
Ah thanks I didn't know of that github project.
iive has quit [Quit: They came for me...]
<PanickedKernel>
Is ffmpeg master "stable"(ish)?
kus has quit [Ping timeout: 240 seconds]
<furq>
it's generally recommended to use that if you're not a distro packager
<furq>
and even if you are, but they won't listen
<PanickedKernel>
lol
<PanickedKernel>
Also am I blind or are there no "non-free" builds on that github link? The readme mentions the variant builds and I wanted a ffmpeg built with everything licenses be damned lol
<furq>
nonfree builds aren't distributable
<BtbN>
Anyone who does is breaking the license of FFmpeg and could in theory face legal consequences
<PanickedKernel>
Ohh ok, my bad. Those are build instructions
<BtbN>
The literal only reason nonfree is talkes about at all is because people want to use fdk together with x264/5
<BtbN>
really not worth the hassle, use the native aac encoder
<furq>
or just don't reencode the audio at all
<PanickedKernel>
Thanks for the help people, appreciated!
