<tm512> trying to narrow down the source of these dropped frames I'm having when streaming to twitch
<tm512> the idea I had was to separate the encoding and network stuff, by recording locally first, seeing if the encoder was dropping frames, and then stream that recording to twitch with the ?bandwidthtest parameter on the URL to prevent going live
<tm512> does the copy "codec" not report anything about dropped/duped frames? can it even do that?
<tm512> I'm using this command for the network test: ffmpeg -re -stream_loop -1 -i ~/streamtest5M_gpu.flv -c:v copy -c:a copy -f flv "rtmp://${rtmpdomain}/app/${twitchkey}?bandwidthtest=true"
<tm512> normally there are always some dropped frames when initially making the RTMP connection, but ffmpeg's output has given no indication of those

<tm512> unplugging my connection briefly to see what sort of effect that has, and it seems like ffmpeg just pauses reading the input, then resumes when the network comes back. that's definitely not what I want
<tm512> for it to actually act like a live capture, it should have continued reading the input, and dropped those frames

<tm512> guess the fact that I wasn't dropping frames at all when making this test recording does point towards network issues, but I only made like a 10min test recording, which isn't really conclusive, since these drops happen in large batches intermittently, not constantly
<tm512> even using -re with actual reencoding doesn't allow frames to be dropped, ugh. it's like the RTMP completely controls the rate at which the input is read, whereas with real livestreaming, the input isn't gonna pause to wait for the network to catch up
<tm512> any alternative to -re that will actually drop frames if the output can't keep up?

<evilscreww> aaabbb, ive been messing around with "lossless cut"
<evilscreww> its pretty good
<evilscreww> am i supposed to cut at the "keyframes"
<aaabbb> i don't know what "lossless cut" is but i guess it's software. the only way to cut losslessly is if you cut at keyframes yes
<evilscreww> i seee .........
<evilscreww> but thank you for letting me know anyhow, the program will display the keyframes on the timeline for you automatically
<evilscreww> okay thats good

<aiFb> my mkv videos have webp-embedded covers, how to convert them to png-embedded losslessly? yt-dlp defaults them to webp instead of something more friendly like png and no file managers/thumbnailers i'm aware of can actually display the embedded webp (it fallsback to generating a thumbnail but i want to keep youtube thumbnails)

<DevinDev> Hello? Does anyone know if its possible to use ffmpeg to encode/decode Nintendo DS DPG Files?
<JEEB> whatever those are :)
<JEEB> (I don't see dpg in `ffmpeg -formats`
<DevinDev> Ah
<JEEB> (writers are listed with `ffmpeg -muxers`)
<DevinDev> Any chance it could be supported in the fututer?
<DevinDev> Future*
<sonicrules1234> vgm_stream might do it
<JEEB> if someone cares enough about it, as I said the problem is that people might not even know what it is and thus there's even less of a chance of someone caring about it since how do you care about something that you don't know about :)
<JEEB> there's one entry on mike's wiki which is for some german dot-dpg?
<JEEB> which is probably a different dpg :P
<DevinDev> I was hoping I would be able to use ffmpeg I know there is other ways of converting though.
rsx has quit [Quit: rsx]
<DevinDev> It uses mpeg1video and mp2 for audio but ffmpeg does not seem to understand the container I think?
<JEEB> that would be quite likely :P
<JEEB> but yea, at this point it sounds like you care most
<JEEB> thus you might want to look into figuring out if someone has documented the file format, and then write a reader and writer for FFmpeg
<JEEB> although I would recommend just checking out what `ffprobe -v verbose -i FILE` outputs for such a file
<DevinDev> I consider myself a bit of a nooby C programmer not sure if I could but maybe ill give it a shot a some point.
<JEEB> I wouldn't worry about it too much, as long as you find the definition for the format
<JEEB> #ffmpeg-devel would then be the channel to get help with development within FFmpeg
<DevinDev> [mp3float @ 0x557c0e6d0180] Header missing it thinks its a mp3 for audio and does not see the video stream.
<DevinDev> Ill ask in that channel then thank you.
