<dtometzki> good morning together
<davidlt[m]> morning
<dtometzki> davidlt: you got your visionfive ?
<davidlt[m]> dtometzki: no, it's somewhere in UPS system :)
<davidlt[m]> Didn't check this morning.
<dtometzki> where do you buyed it ?
<davidlt[m]> I did not. It's a sample from the vendor.
<dtometzki> ahh ok
<dtometzki> great
<dtometzki> there are many problems with the delivery
<davidlt[m]> I think it's different for KS folks and for my case.
<dtometzki> AllNET.CHina was fast and delivered before the date
<davidlt[m]> StarFive has sent me stuff before, we have "tested" way of doing this.
<dtometzki> ah
<davidlt[m]> So it travels in a different way that we know works for me.
<davidlt[m]> Typically vendors (pretty much all of them) seed some systems before general availability to some developers (for feedback, early works, etc.)
<davidlt[m]> I probably getting VIsionFive V2 quite late. I know other folks had it (well, early pre-prod samples probably) for a long time now.
<dtometzki> And your company (I think red hat) is partner
<davidlt[m]> I am not from Red Hat.
<davidlt[m]> I used to work at SiFive (RISCV) and now I worked Rivos Inc. (RISCV).
<dtometzki> ah o then it is clear. I just thought you could apply to get such a part as a developer
<davidlt[m]> Before that I used to work at CERN especially on R&D related to alt arches (ARMv8 server stuff, Intel next-gen stuff + accelerators [but not GPUs], a bit of OpenPower stuff)
<davidlt[m]> In some cases you can reach to the companies. Some companies also have a form/program for developers.
<davidlt[m]> RV International has their own program too for providing HW access to developers.
<dtometzki> ok
<dtometzki> there are few jobs like this in germany. Most use offshore here

<cwt[m]> I got VF2 super early bird around 2 weeks ago. Now just pre-order another early bird, it should be here around next month.
<dtometzki> hey great
<cwt[m]> I started working on my custom kernel build and Arch Linux image, but I can't do that for Fedora because there is no base image or packages that I can use for now.

<davidlt[m]> The preference is to use upstream stuff. As soon as things start looking okay I am happy to pull in the patches.
<davidlt[m]> We have been talking to StarFive for years now. They know the expectations on the software/firmware side.
<davidlt[m]> We don't even have stable DT bindings yet.
<dtometzki> a bit cumbersome is StarFive
<davidlt[m]> Jakubs is working on landing GCC 13 already (today, minutes ago).
<davidlt[m]> We might start the Fedora 38/Rawhide tomorrow is he actually makes the build in Koji.
<davidlt[m]> binutils 2.40 is released.
<davidlt[m]> glibc is probably a bit out, but it's already in a hard freeze.

<dtometzki> so i buyed my second visonfive 2 now
<dtometzki> delivery expected in march
<cwt[m]> I will use my second board with distcc, so I can build my kernel and other packages with make -j8
