<ppetrov^> hi guys, I adapted the rstudio-desktop from Arch's AUR and it seems to build and work: https://github.com/slackalaxy/crux-ports/tree/main/scientific/rstudio-desktop
<SiFuh> So you are the new maintainer?
<ppetrov^> emmm, I just made myself a port
<ppetrov^> if someone wants to use it, i am find with that
<ppetrov^> the list of dependencies is ridiculous, so I should build it on a minimal install. I am pretty sure stuff like dav1d, x264, etc is not needed
<farkuhar> ppetrov^: congratulations on a successful rstudio port. I suspect that most other users might have reacted to its being dropped from contrib, by taking pedja's advice and running a (mini)conda install.
<ppetrov^> conda is something of a mystery for me still
<farkuhar> conda is one of those packaging ecosystems that maintains its own database of installed software, separate from the CRUX ports system. CRUX purists might refuse to do any installations outside of ports, so conda is not something they'd ever consider.
<ppetrov^> yep, that's what i've figured... i just don't see the point of using it if i can get the required programs as normal packages
<ppetrov^> bioconda is quite popular, though
<ppetrov^> btw, have you guys heard of this: https://cruxex.exton.net/
<farkuhar> anyone who subscribes to the CRUX mailing list will have seen announcements of CruxEX, for example https://lists.crux.nu/pipermail/crux/2020-December/006770.html
<ppetrov^> oho! Maybe I should subscribe, too...
