<farkuhar> elderK: to ease the transition of users like you, sway advertises itself as a drop-in replacement for i3. In fact sway should be able to parse your existing i3 config, allowing you to start using wayland without learning a whole new set of keybindings.

<ivandi> elderK: i built 3.6 from core up for wayland and sway. no regrets so far. i even tried to get rid of xwayland, it is doable but not very practical. with wayland all sorts of video glitches are gone. i had occasional lockups and crashes wit x11, none with wayland. screen tearing is gone too.
<ivandi> i run sway full time. for stuff that is not happy with tilling wm i run wayfire on tty2 in parallel wit sway on tty1.

<elderK> I guess I'll just have to try it sometime.
<elderK> I figure a lot of stuff I use will require X11 anyway.
<elderK> So many libraries for instance require it.
<elderK> Lots of games, too.
<elderK> I guess XWayland is an X11 server that really uses Wayland?
<brian|lfs> jaeger, I would use wayland but it doesn't work with the propritory nvidia drivers still

<jaeger> yeah, still no love between nvidia and wayland, I think
<jaeger> gaming with xwayland is pretty solid, though
<jaeger> I have a system with a radeon rx 6800 in it and was able to run quite a few games, steam and otherwise, using xwayland

<brian|lfs> I"m back
<brian|lfs> strange after I updated my kernel and reinstall nvidia xorg decied that it wouldn't try to load the nvidia driver anymore and try nouveau and other drivers
<brian|lfs> so ran nvidia-xconfig good to go now
<brian|lfs> 4481 frames in 5.0 seconds = 896.146 FPS
<brian|lfs> 5370 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1073.839 FPS
