<karnol> hello guys
<SiFuh> hello guy
<karnol> well i'm having problems with xorg
<karnol> i cant move my mouse and keyboard doesn't work
<SiFuh> Have you asked xorg how she feels?
<karnol> xd
<SiFuh> Are you the one who popped up the other day saying you were added to group input?
<karnol> I already installed xf86input and the user is already in the input group
<SiFuh> You don't need to be in the group input
<karnol> yes
<SiFuh> If your mouse and keyboard are not working. The chances are you didn't compile the right things into your kernel
<SiFuh> What kernel version are you using? Are you using AMD or Intel CPU?
<karnol> 5.10.90 intel
<karnol> weird but with the same kernel works on kiss linux
<SiFuh> I do not have a 5.10.X uploaded but I have a 5.11.X
<SiFuh> This is intel based, fully modular kernel.
<SiFuh> I recommend building this. Then when you boot you can do a lsmod and see what modules you need and then build them in to the kernel, or keep them as modules.
<karnol> ok i gonna try
<karnol> thanks
<SiFuh> Also
<SiFuh> Did you do prt-get install <port> or prt-get depinst <port> ?
<SiFuh> xorg-xf86-input-libinput is as you said you installed
<SiFuh> required*
<karnol> prt get install
<SiFuh> Stick with depinstall
<SiFuh> It will build all the dependencies that the maintainer has included
<SiFuh> depinst*
<SiFuh> And makes your life much easier ;-)
<karnol> but this doesnt have dependencies i think
<SiFuh> prt-get depends --all xorg-xf86-input-libinput | awk '{ print $2 }' | sort -u | wc -l
<SiFuh> Lists 98 unique dependencies ;-)
<karnol> fuck
<karnol> thanks man
<SiFuh> To find all missing deps on a system, we usually do
<SiFuh> for i in $(prt-get listinst); do prt-get depends --all "${i}" | grep "\[\ "; done
<farkuhar> great to see SiFuh acknowledging that the maintainers usually do a good job listing the necessary dependencies. A few days ago he commented on the rare case when a listed dependency can be omitted with no ill effect (smpeg and giblib, I believe)
<SiFuh> Wrong
<SiFuh> I commented on stale, expired, out of date dependency
<SiFuh> So ancient probably not even being developed anymore
<SiFuh> giblib and smpeg
<karnol>  something really annoying with dhcpcd, every boot i have to run dhcpcd eth0
<SiFuh> Hahaha, I mentioned it on the channel before with Romsters name but he is pre-occupied
<karnol> even with dhcpcd service "selected" in rc.conf it doesnt work
<SiFuh> /etc/rc.d/net
<karnol> with net doesnt work either, its already selected in dhcp
<SiFuh> Did you edit that file?
<SiFuh> edit these two lines TYPE="DHCP" DEV="<whatever>"
<karnol> i edited
<karnol> oh i forgot the dev
<farkuhar> I did try building sdl_mixer (which is the only port claiming smpeg as a dependency) when smpeg was not installed. It compiled just fine, but I got a warning that MP3 support would be disabled. As for giblib, the only dependent port is scrot, and I have no reason to test that on a Wayland-only system.

<SiFuh> farkuhar: I don't even know why SDL_mixer was even installed :-P
<SiFuh> Ahh for the game warmux
<farkuhar> Or for the game scorched3d
<SiFuh> giblib is such a perfect code it hasn't been updated since 2004 by the looks of it
<SiFuh> smeg (Loki Software's MPEG decoding library.) hmm? Was actually updated on the 26th of May. But the Romster version hasn't been updated since 2016
<SiFuh> smpeg*
<farkuhar> "such perfect code" ... I wish someone had given that rebuttal when it was pointed out that six years had passed since the last update to our webtools git repo: https://crux.nu/gitweb/?p=tools/webtools.git;a=summary
<SiFuh> Haha by gum things be grim
<karnol> the crux wiki is kinda weird, the format idk
<SiFuh> I haven't been able to update shotcut lately. Even Arch hasn't been able to.
<SiFuh> karnol: ? I found it very good myself. Direct to the point without gibberish
<SiFuh> You are talking about the handbook right?
<karnol> yeah
<karnol> I think the order in which the topics are shown is bad
<SiFuh> I remember back in the 90's. You'd get the distro on disk and a booklet. You sat down and read the booklet through. Was an interesting time. These days most distros you just install and they tell you as they go on the screen what to do.
<SiFuh> Ahh okay.
<SiFuh> Not one to know this
<SiFuh> Quick scan, you mean like 6 should be where 4 is?
<karnol> example 6.1.5 should be close to 3.2 instead of just "Edit /etc/rc.d/n..."
<SiFuh> So slot 6 in before 4 then? Confiuration before pkg system
<karnol> yes
<SiFuh> Yeah, I would have done it that.
<SiFuh> How am I missing letters and words in my sentences?
<karnol> brain bug
<SiFuh> It is a microsoft keyboard!
<SiFuh> Actually I think it is the only product they make that I like
<karnol> I like too, but they are too expensive for what they deliver
ty3r0x has joined #crux
<SiFuh> I think I paid 20 bucks
<SiFuh> Wireless Keyboard 850 and Wireless mouse 1000 all in one.
<karnol> funny, in my country it costs 100 bucks
<SiFuh> I smashed the Logitech already because it wasn't doing what it was suppose to be doing. I have a habit of doing that though. I have never smashed a HP or a Microsoft keyboard though :-P
<karnol> Logitech mice are pretty good
<karnol> but the keyboards
<SiFuh> Yes, I have hit a microsoft mouse and broke it. But never the logitech mouse
<karnol> now i have a razer viper mini, my hand is small and its very cheap
<SiFuh> Yeah the keyboard annoyed me. Not even 4 months in and the backspace key and spacebar were jamming and needed multiple hits to get it down
<SiFuh> Oooh, back at my parents home in Australia I have a Razer mouse. Beautiful, it is wired though. Actually it belongs to my brother. He let me use it and he hasn't seen it since.
<karnol> I'm in need of a new headphone but I don't know which one to buy
<SiFuh> Don't ask me. I am anti-headphone
<SiFuh> I find headphones and audible ear plugs (Not sure what they are call, usually get them with phones and stuff) are a really stupid design. They basically block air flow so the audio smashes into your ear drums. They needs holes on the outside that allow the air to escape.
<karnol> no i mean headset but without the built-in mic
<SiFuh> Isn't that same thing? You put them over your ears?
<karnol> are you talking about headphones like airpods?
<SiFuh> Headphones are the big things you put over your ears
<SiFuh> Audible ear plugs are the tiny shit you stuff inside your ears
<karnol> oh
<karnol> i hate earphones (i don't know what they are called) this is uncomfortable and i can be deaf with it
<SiFuh> Seems headsets and headphones are the same thing
<SiFuh> I have been anti headset/headphone/ear plug since the 80s
<SiFuh> I still plug my ears when I go to a cinema. I can hear the wife combing the nieces hair downstairs. I hate my hearing but I am glad I have it. I protect it as much as I can
<karnol> xd
<SiFuh> Sorry jaeger :-P Cherry keyboards are off limits most of the time here
<SiFuh> karnol: I will admit though. I have trouble hearing things close. It is easier to hear things far away.
<SiFuh> Often wonder does short and long sighted apply to hearing as well
<karnol> and the vision? during the pandemic I started wearing glasses
<SiFuh> What pandemic?
<SiFuh> 8 billion people, I never tripped over a single body nor saw one
<karnol> xd
<SiFuh> My vision is the same don't need glasses
<SiFuh> It is actually along story that one. But it isn't important.
<SiFuh> a long*
<karnol> wdym
<SiFuh> Right, got to go. Work. Good luck karnol. Let us know how it goes
<karnol> Soon I will give good news, so I hope
<SiFuh> Irssi is pretty much open 24/7 except when internet crashes aroudn 9 am
<SiFuh> karnol: don't add your user to unnecessary groups
<karnol> just wheel is good?
ardo has quit [Read error: Connection reset by peer]

<karnol> ok
