ppetrov^: how about this https://dpaste.com/2M4YQKVCQ ? I named it 'prt-search'. Run it like prt-search <port>
<ppetrov^>
i want so serach for a port for an older version of boost
<SiFuh_>
Oh I see
<ppetrov^>
after the last update a my electricsheep broke with the new ffmpeg, so i fix it to use ffmpeg4. However it seems to break also because of an boost update
<ppetrov^>
gee, i hate boost updates
<SiFuh_>
Same
<ppetrov^>
ye...
<ppetrov^>
btw, your vlc port does not build anymore
<ppetrov^>
sorry, I can't report the issue, i am dealing with the boost/electricsheep stuff... too bad not many distros have it, so I can't look for patches. Maybe I'll install old boost in a custom location or sth
<SiFuh_>
ppetrov^: updated vlc. It is now using ffmpeg4. Unfortunately if ffmpeg is installed it won't build. I ended up having to remove ffmpeg, build and install vlc and the reinstall ffmpeg
<ppetrov^>
thanks
<ppetrov^>
you know, this type of serious changes is one thing i do not particularly like
<ppetrov^>
and it seems I will downgrade electricsheep to the old version that Slackware uses and which requires mplayer
<SiFuh_>
Yeah, lots of patching and many broken stuff. Usually boost for example screws up all my SDR ports (Software defined radio)

ppetrov^: the ability to guarantee that a specific version of a dependency is installed might be why users like Mellowlink were interested in having Nix package management on CRUX. But there's also demand for the opposite; just yesterday pvn was asking how to install CRUX prt-utils on a host running Slackware or Void.
<ppetrov^>
I would love to see prt-utils work with Slackware
<ppetrov^>
I actually 'fixed' my problem by using an old version of electricsheep that does not need boost
<farkuhar>
glad to hear the fix was so simple. Meanwhile there are a number of packages that still present problems if built with both ffmpeg and ffmpeg4 installed, as SiFuh_ observed with vlc.
<ppetrov^>
ah, i have ffmpegthumbnailer that I need to fix now...
<farkuhar>
if the development cycle for vlc is as rapid as I seem to recall, the incompatibility shouldn't persist much longer. But with moc it's a different story. Even after getting it to compile, I still run into "symbol lookup error" at runtime, because the library search path finds /usr/lib/libavcodec.so before /usr/lib/ffmpeg4/libavcodec.so

farkuhar: Yeah, I am still working on Shotcut. If I can get shotcut to ffmpeg4 I can remove ffmpeg altogether

Technically mlt not shotcut.
<farkuhar>
Some good news for a change: wf-recorder successfully compiles with both ffmpeg4 and ffmpeg installed, provided the PKG_CONFIG_PATH variable is set to /usr/lib/ffmpeg4/pkgconfig. At runtime it works just as before (no symbol lookup errors).

hello world and good people
<ocb>
came from forest, brought some more wood for heating. finally its warm :)
<SiFuh>
qHeh
<ocb>
note: not chopping alive wood, only the one that is already dead.
<ocb>
how are you today?

Living wood is more important than dead wood?
<stenur>
Adorable behaviour :)
<stenur>
P.S.: amazing that you still can pass by living wood. I could take a photo from our "forest", i would say, 50 percent dead, and 49 percent mortally ill.
<ppetrov^>
hmm... i am running linux 5.12.14. After the latest update, including update of linux-firmware, my laptop's battery is not detected. Does the firmware version depend on the kernel version for some compatibility?

<ppetrov^>
ok, it's not the firmware, some miscommunication with dbus
