<stenur> No not me. Hopefully no systemd for CRUX and no firmwares for my bike.
<groovy2shoes> i've got a bike. you can ride it if you like. it's got a basket, a bell that rings, and things to make it look good. i'd give it to you if i could, but i borrowed it.

<SiFuh_> My bike has a motor and a horn. If I am on a road equal too or over 80 KPH I should wear leather. Apparently toads love to jump towards the head lights and I am constantly flicking them off my boots.

<Guest42> hello, what is your system updates maintenance routine? do you try to run pet-get sysup and if something fails, investigate. or you have a different method?…
Guest42 has quit [Client Quit]
Guest42 has joined #crux
<ppetrov^> i prefer to do update on Saturday
<ppetrov^> so if something breaks i investigate
<ppetrov^> last time i needed to do this was when poppler was updated and my inkscape did not build without another patch, whic i finally found from gentoo. Mind that i am using an older version of inkscape

<Guest42> Is there a good guide for troubleshooting build problems?
<ppetrov^> i really don't know
<ppetrov^> when i do sysup, i run revdep
<ppetrov^> then recompile if something is reported
<ppetrov^> if a build fails, i google the error
<ppetrov^> like this find patches and, well very rarely, i make a patch myself
<ocb> thanks for the upload!
* ocb wonders where did that come from. wrong keys pressed
<ppetrov^> :D
<Guest42> So, trial and error
<ocb> how have you been doing cruxrs
<ppetrov^> two crux newbies discussingcompilation troubles
<ocb> sounds fun :) decided to take a break this weekend
<Guest42> Is Cruz used in production environments?
Guest42 has quit [Quit: Client closed]
Guest42 has joined #crux
<ppetrov^> obligatory: what do you mean by 'production environment'
<Guest42> like running servers or workstations at companies or schools
<ppetrov^> ah, no idea. I run it at (home) office
<ocb> unrelated to crux and maybe too specific question, but.. anyone played with stegtunnel, stunnel, shadowsocks or some other secure tunneling (obfuscation) tools, if yes did you try to dissect this traffic from other traffic on same port?
<jaeger> I have used it in production before. No reason you can't do so, just keep it maintained and updated like you would with anything important
<ocb> Guest42: im running 3 productions with crux, 2 are not important and can be down for a while if anything happens, the third one is running on a bare metal and is quite important. been running quite well, i even forget from time to time its running :)
<ocb> jaeger: do you maintain portdb and would you mind changing a domain to ip since i have it expiring in few weeks and won't be extending?
Guest42 has quit [Quit: Client closed]
<farkuhar> ocb: yes, jaeger is the one you should talk to about portdb entries. He quickly updated mine a few weeks ago, but it's still sequestered on the "unofficial" list at present. Which domain of yours is coming up for renewal? l-25.net?
<ocb> farkuhar: thanks for getting back to me. yeah l-25.net is coming to renewal. actually, i might just look for a shorter and less confusing domain and ask jaeger to update then.
Guest5964 has joined #crux
<farkuhar> ocb: fwiw, I think l-25.net is a neat little domain name. I can't think of many that are appreciably shorter, but I grant you the possibility of a domain with less room for confusion.
<farkuhar> just don't expect much congratulations from this quarter if you switch to a domain consisting entirely of emojis.
<ocb> thanks for the heads up, you are most likely right so i might just go and extend it for lousy 8-9$
<ocb> running a few smaller but few years active projects on .fi and .ch since 2014-2015. was lookin few weeks ago my current registrar changed prices for .fi from 14$ to 52$, silently, no idea why. anyways gotta keep paying them.
<ocb> wasn't looking at emojis and stuff don't care about those :)
<ocb> anywhere i look, there are many signs internet is becoming a bigger junkyard full of unrelevant stuff unless one knows what he's looking for aproximately :(

<farkuhar> ocb: too true, at least for the www. But other protocols are enjoying a resurgence (especially gopher and gemini), where the content still has the appearance of being hand-curated rather than generated by algorithms.

<Guest5969> how do i get youtube sound on firefox-bin?
<ocb> ^^ agree keep seeing gopher more and more lately :)
<ocb> Guest5969: do you have pulseaudio configured correctly? afaik firefox-bin doesn't come with alsa support anymore. if you want alfa, you should build firefox yourself.
<Guest5969> i have pulseaudio installed. how do i check if it is working correctly?...
<ocb> i haven't used pulseaudio in years and don't have it on any of my systems. could you try playing a simple audio file with 'paplay <file>'
<farkuhar> Also try 'pactl info'. If pulseaudio is running, you should get some info about the server setup.
<Guest5969> paplay says failed to open audio file
<Guest5969> my mplayer works
<Guest5969> pactl says pa_context_connect() failed: Connection refused
<farkuhar> mplayer was probably built with alsa support, and fell back to that output when it couldn't open a connection to pulseaudio. Your pactl output indicates that pulseaudio is not running.
<Guest5969> pa-info shows a bunch of info but not sure how to interpret it.
<ppetrov^> Guest5969, in your /etc/pulse/client.conf, what does "autospawn =" say?
<ppetrov^> I had to put it to autospawn = yes, in order to have pulseaudion start with Xfce...
<Guest5969> autospawn says no
<ppetrov^> you may try to uncomment it and set it to yes
<ppetrov^> btw, did you do:
<ppetrov^> prt-get readme pulseaudio
<ppetrov^> :p
<ppetrov^> or you can try to just start it and see if things work
<ppetrov^> just type in terminal: pulseaudio
<ppetrov^> hope this helps

<jaeger> farkuhar: the official portdb was throwing a 404 because I left off the trailing slash, looks like. Should be better after the next run
<jaeger> ocb: yes, if you want I can change it to an IP
