<farkuhar> frinnst: moving ffmpeg4 from contrib to opt had the curious side-effect that moc no longer builds. http://ix.io/3QnJ
<farkuhar> the binary that I built before the ffmpeg update, however, still runs smoothly and uses the ffmpeg decoder libraries. It's just that the configure script no longer finds the correct header directories automatically, now that they've been shuffled around to make space for a newer ffmpeg.
<farkuhar> I've played around with different CFLAGS settings, trying to override the configure script, but always the same errors appear.
<ocb> kuhar in serbian means a person that cooks food :) i always think you're a chef :P
<farkuhar> ocb: I do enjoy spending time in the kitchen.
<ocb> aaah ... that's it then :)
<ocb> you don't even know and you're representing energy in other languages ;)
<ppetrov^> ocb, dobar dan :p
<ppetrov^> heh
_moth_ has quit [Ping timeout: 256 seconds]
<ocb> ppetrov^: dobar dan druze (sorry was playing a chef/kuhar in the kitchen) :D
<ocb> its a beautiful sunny day :)
<ppetrov^> nice
<ocb> do you ever go outside?
<ppetrov^> occasionally
<ppetrov^> these days it is not too cold
<ocb> ah, at least the heating bills are lower, but use these upcoming beautiful sunny days. they will pass really fast.
<ocb> i've planted some of my regular snowmoon X african landrace cannabis genetics this morning, they're under the sun so we'll see :) its a test drive to see what've got after last pollination
<ppetrov^> heh, heating bills... you know in Sofia (I am Bulgarian), heating bills are skyrocketing
<ppetrov^> many people switch to heating with wood, and as a result the city is among the most polluted in Europe in winter
<ocb> ah, nice to meet you, had a plan to go visit plovdiv and sofia to macedonia and maybe further this summer. the bills for heating are skyrocketing here too, or at least they're planning to do it in 1-2 months, but wood is more and more expensive, instead of 25 eur / m now it's 35-40 eur / m
<ocb> but i go to forest and bring my own wood, you can probably do that too but its more hard work
<ppetrov^> welcome to the 21st century...
<ppetrov^> Plovdiv is nice, go to the Black sea before they cover it all in concrete
<ppetrov^> you know, the greek have the marble sea, we have the Concrete sea...
<ocb> ^^ ahhh lol
<ocb> we could expect in coming 10-15 years that heating on wood will be forbidden or might be somehow regulated
<ocb> i will make sure to do that, sit in the car with a friend or two and live in hostels and see some shit before we completely get locked out like modern slaves should be in their plans
<ppetrov^> heh... I don't know how's the situation with forests in Serbia, but in Bulgaria they keep chopping them down
<ocb> thank you for the recommendation. i was not aware they're doing that with black sea
<ppetrov^> they have been doing it since over 20 years
<ppetrov^> there are nice places, but at some point they will need to demolish hotels and so on
<ocb> yeah, as while as there are people that heat on wood, they will keep chopping it.. doing same here. im currently on the border with bosnia they're cutting the forest
<ocb> ^^ demolish for what reason?
<ppetrov^> because it is becoming over.. emm, 'built'?
<ppetrov^> pre-zastroeno
<ppetrov^> you can see hotels that are built 10 m from the sea
<ppetrov^> but hey, English drunks love the seacoast, so who cares
<ocb> +1
<ocb> same as people that go to thailand coast but don't actually care anything about the wild nature life there, SiFuh surely sees this much
<ocb> i see didn't know they will go with demolishing
<ocb> do you heat on wood?
<ppetrov^> they wii not go demolishing yet, but i am sure at some point they will
<ppetrov^> I don't heat on wood, and I actually do not live in Bulgaria
<ocb> at this very moment in this village one can easily buy cheap wood before buying season starts, ~15 eur / meter which are actually small pieces and sawing leftovers
<ppetrov^> my family there still relies on the central heating
<ppetrov^> but, electricity also goes up, together with everything else
<ocb> everything is true
<ppetrov^> but, every winter we have the reports about 'microparticles' pollution and it is getting worse and worse
<ppetrov^> and a certain, hmmm.. ethnic group... burns tyres for heating
<ppetrov^> Emir Kusturica loves making films about them
<ocb> aghhh
<ppetrov^> sorry if i misspelled his name..
<ocb> i love his old movies, yeah
<ppetrov^> yes, me too
<ppetrov^> every 10 years or so I rewatch Underground
<ocb> but its reality shown in a funny way ^^
<ppetrov^> yes, and it's a very serious topic
<ppetrov^> also towards the end of the film, geez, that's blood freezing stuff
<ocb> i haven't heard of it in long time :) rewatched black cat white cat recently :D
<ocb> will put underground on leech :)
<ppetrov^> ah, black cat white cat is hilarious
<ocb> :D
<ocb> regarding the ethnic group.. been to romania 2 years ago for 6 months, nice country but a part of people really lives hard
<ppetrov^> i can imagine
<ppetrov^> and yet, Romania as a whole is doing a bit better than Bulgaria
<ocb> will try to plan my visit this year and listen to your recommendation to see the Concrete Sea ;)
<ppetrov^> heh
<ppetrov^> you know, Bulgarians like to exaggerate
<ppetrov^> also there's something about an, hmmm.. masochistic tendency of self-criticism
<ppetrov^> there are plenty of nice places, Nesebar for example
<ocb> if i decide to go on that path, will check for at least some general route
<ocb> thanks for the recommendation :)
<ocb> im afraid to go with my car since it can break anytime :)
<ppetrov^> heh
<ppetrov^> they will soon make a flight connection with Macedonia
<ppetrov^> now Bulgaria tries to warm up the relations, yadayada
<ppetrov^> so if you go via Skopje, maybe it will be a good way
<ocb> some initial plan was montenegro, albania, greece, macedonia, bulgaria, romania, hungary, 6-8 weeks
<ocb> maybe a quick dip to turkey
<ocb> the only problem is vacinnes and their shitty papers :)
<ocb> ^^ either car or bus+train
<ppetrov^> should work
<ppetrov^> avoid Bulgarian trains
<ppetrov^> like, really
<ocb> exaggerating? .D
<ocb> why?
<ppetrov^> they are too old, too slow and can be dangerous
<ppetrov^> 10 years ago there was a tragedy with a fire
<ocb> ah, will keep that in mind
<ocb> people usually think - whats the change of it happening to me
<ppetrov^> yes. I don't say that anything bad will happen. People use them every day. But they are old and slow
<ocb> all that is ok, not that i need to go as fast as possible or i'll be late for work ;)
<ocb> but i understand
<ocb> thanks for the tip :)
<ppetrov^> heh, you're welcome
<ocb> Iran was my initial idea, with a bus through all these countries but.. that's a bit more harder trip that doesn't involve local balkan countries
<ocb> are you going anywhere?
<ocb> or just work and local country?
<ppetrov^> just work
<ppetrov^> with the whole covid shite, travelling became quite complicated
<ocb> i also thought that
<ocb> i dont take vacinnes and shit
<ocb> but a friend of mine is travelling all the time around
<ocb> and he says, no problems at all
<ocb> before the border he makes a test for 5-7-10 eur and uses it to pass the border in most cases it works, the other guy used old certificates with changed date (fake) which is not nice to hear but.. people do what they want until they get found
<ppetrov^> i do take vaccines and i would highly recommend to you to get vaccinated
<ocb> a friend went to greece few months ago and said no problems about covid shit
<ppetrov^> i don't want to start this debate here (in Bulgaria 70% of population stubbornly refuses to get the vaccine)
<ocb> thanks for the recommendation but i do not use that :)
<ocb> neither do i want to start a debate, that's why thanks for the recommendation :)
<ppetrov^> ok, let's leave it like that :)
<ocb> i appreciate your concerns for people that don't think about themselves :)
<ppetrov^> it's not like this
<ppetrov^> I can assure you an mRNA vaccine will not alter your DNA :p
<ocb> :)
<ppetrov^> anyway, you'll need a lot of tests
<ppetrov^> but hey, Bulgaria plans to lift the green certificates restrictions, so you're most welcome there
<ocb> :))
<ocb> not sure if its me, but i got burnout from work
<ocb> how do you manage to work constantly
<ppetrov^> ye, same here
<ppetrov^> i don't
<ppetrov^> i mean i don't manage
<ppetrov^> i have a deadline in 10 days
<ocb> you're a sysadmin or something (unless its a secret) ?
<ppetrov^> but physically it is becoming very hard
<ppetrov^> no secret
<ppetrov^> i am a biologist, had my PhD in immunology and now I am working on bioinformatics
<ocb> interesting
<ppetrov^> it was, but my latest project is quite hard and i am very much fed up
<ocb> you decided the project or somebody told you that you need to do that project?
<ocb> its understandable, when something takes a long time its not unusual to get fed up after a longer period of time
<ppetrov^> kinda both
<ppetrov^> it was a project i wanted to work on. But I am not an independent researcher, so it's the group I work in that decides what I do
<ocb> i see, hope you finish it well in time and maybe get some time for your brain after being fed up with something :)
<ppetrov^> and what do you do ocb?
<ppetrov^> if it's not secret :p
<ocb> :P
<ocb> well..
<ocb> no school, doing web security from early days of my life, bug bounty for monies and a bit of linux sysadmin of a bitcoin related project, been a lot into bitcoin since ~2011 in the early days of silkroad
<ppetrov^> sounds good :)
<ocb> worked hard past years so i think i got burned out and have issues focusing now, so im just .. into anything i find interesting and not about money lately :)
<ocb> now i can't focus really well
<ppetrov^> ye..
<ocb> it sounds good, but i think some people after longer period of time need some work structure, and being in freelance for 10+ years loses this working structure and habits
<SiFuh> ocb: Yep
<ocb> its the thailand or the last message?
<ocb> ppetrov^: nice talking to you, go do your project and work, and maybe take some time off once you're done with it :)
<SiFuh> ocb: Thailand
<ppetrov^> nice talking to you, too ocb

<farkuhar> on further investigation of the ffmpeg upgrade, it looks like having both versions installed is not a scenario anticipated by the moc configure script. The newer version ends up masking the legacy version, and the build fails. Here's a Pkgfile to address the conflict: http://ix.io/3Qqv
<farkuhar> ^Romster
<farkuhar> better yet, follow beerman's gegl example and redefine the pkg-config search path. http://ix.io/3QqH That should allow a clean compile even if both versions are installed.
